I retired 10 years ago to take of elderly parents. Dad died peacefully last year and Mom is still kicking.
After spending the afternoon in the eye doc's office with Mom, came home and, after settling her down, went for the mail.
New neighbor has a Pit-Bull and today this dog was loose. As I went to the mail box, the dog ran over to the middle of the street (perhaps 15 feet away) and bared his teeth.
His owners were in the yard but did not call the dog. At the same time a UPS truck stop in front of their house, but the driver refused to get out of his truck.
Question is "what steps do I take as a good citizen?"
The next door neighbors inherited the house from the girl's grandmother. The girl's husband is a born again Christian...but he was previously in prison for drugs.
Pit Bull is young but large and aggressive.
Freeper opinions appreciated.
BTW, I have cats who lounge around in the front yard. If this dog kills my cats...I am apt to become upset. And an upset Freeper (armed to the teeth) is not a nice thing to behold.
I carry when I go for walks. Mostly because of a pit bull in the neighborhood but also because of gangs moving into the area.
I thought it was just me who noticed that about pit bull owners ..... thanks for confirming what I've always believed about the ignorant SOB's.
why
You forgot: spread your cheeks and put a pork chop on your back.
??????
I’d talk the neighbor first and let him know that if it happens again the you will not hesitate to call animal control. If you have too call, make sure that it states that the dog was “AT LARGE” or off the owners property and not being controlled by the owner. Dog owners have the responsibility to keep their dogs within their control and on their property - they need to install one of those invisible fences (they work like a charm).
Worst advice of the thread.
If he is lucky, it will not be a long term thing. And it should not be. Your dogs are much different than pitbulls.
Right. Just shoot the dog and be done with it. New (dumbass ignorant pit bull owner) should've known better than to let an aggressive breed dog run loose.
F'em.
Carry bear spray
Call the cops and tell them that neighbour is baking a batch of fresh dognuts!
Well, I was assuming you had not met before and if so the conversation of the dogs behavior and being loose would have been quick and to the point. I know I would be shamed if I failed to secure my dogs for everyones safety including the dogs. Of course having animal control make a visit is always an option. I know you are trying to be nice about it, and all. But if you felt like the dog is a threat, treat it as one. I know that I would shake the hand of anyone who shot one of my dogs if they attacked and if I failed to do my duty as a pet owner.
Thank God it’s a big country and I don’t live next to you. By the way are you a cop?
Invisible fences work. But then you rely on your neighbor. Being pro-active, can you get a Dillon Aero on a tripod?
ROFL!!!!! That's funny right there, just made me laugh out loud
Humorous or just stupid?
When I was a boy and had a paper route (the really old days) I used to carry two things with me for aggressive dogs: a squirt gun filled with ammonia and water and an 18” chunk of an old axe handle (solid, yes really solid ash). The squirt gun was for the little nippers that would nip as I rode by. A good squirt in the face and they would stop at the property line after that. For those big dogs (with what I call a Progressive attitude) a solid whack on the snout (and I would make sure I could get a good whack just as they were ready to bite) was reserved for the others. There is nothing more painful and instructive than a whack on the nose of a dog. 95% of dogs I never had a problem with but the others pretty well mirrored their masters. Please note that in either case were the dogs permanently harmed (police officers might take note).
Yes indeed. Thank God I don't live next to an ignorant jerk like you.
Your cats will be killed by this dog within the next 30 days. I lost both my cats. Neighbor woman lost her small dog in this same situation.
Unlike Mastador1, you are welcome to live in my neighborhood anytime!
