Autopsies will be performed Tuesday on two young boys who were strangled in their sleep by a python that escaped from a pet store in Canada and slithered through a ventilation system into an upstairs apartment.

Somebody needs to be sued into oblivion....
Double bind? How likely is that?
Very suspicious. The snake kills one boy and then moves on to the next one?
What’s suspicious to me is that these boys play with the owner’s boy and that the owner’s boy was in a different room. It’s also suspicious that the owner attracts lots of young kids with his “zoo”. Based on what I’ve read, the mother of the dead boys doesn’t have a male presence in her home, and the owner of the snake has no female presence in his home. (In short, the reports doesn’t mention the father of the boys or the mother of the owner’s son.)
It’s suspicious to me that the snake smashed a hole in the ceiling and dropped down to attack the boys. It’s suspicious that the snake got out of its cage. It’s suspicious that it went through a ventilation system and then got out of that ventilation system.
This article says that one of the police said something like it’s “very, very unusual.”
Plus, the picture of the guy looks creepy.
So, while last night I was defending the idea that the snake would kill and not eat (I still think that’s within reason), I think there are other things about this case that stink.
Guess the owner didn't feed them enough...although, snakes are snakes, aren't they?

Horror!
A specialist at the Montreal Zoo has said this is unheard of behavior for a python or other constrictor snake. Supposedly, if threatened, they will bite rather than constrict. They constrict only if they are attacking prey as possible food, which he thought extremely unlikely. I’m not saying the snake didn’t do it, only that as you say, there are some odd circumstances here.
Did the thing slither up the wall in the shop to get to the ventilation ducts?
Hey, it may turn out that the snake did kill the two boys, but it will be the first known case of a snake of that size killing two victims of that size, and then just going to hide. Especially after 'punching a hole' in the ceiling.
Hopefully, the autopsy is looking for signs of sexual abuse.
However, there’s always the possibility that the owner just wanted to see what would happen. More likely, though, if this is dirty, it means that he was silencing the boys for some reason. Sexual predation would be the most likely reason.
So come on down to Pythons-R-Us, conveniently located just two kilometres north of the Pat Boutette Rink, right next to Gord’s House of Poutine and The Touque Shack. Call, 555-SNAKE.
I hate snakes.
:-)
We had a 5 foot long Yellow Rat snake that would catch and coil two mice while he caught his 3rd. He would then eat them. Not saying that this snake killed two at once, but it is possible.

If I’d remembered your handle, I’d have pinged you, too.

Here is something interesting that was posted up on cornsnakes.com. The store owners name is John-Claude Savoie....

Accused of sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault, assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats, and pointing a firearm
Could be a coincidence, however.
Yeah, theres probably dozens of guys named Jean-Claude Savoie in that town.
/s
Also the store was formerly a zoo but lost its accreditation due to poor husbandry, the neighbors had a petition going to shut it down [again, poor husbandry] and the snake was illegal due to size regulations.
I’m sure this is a coincidence but this comes right before a vote is to be held for yet another draconian chunk of legislature.
Yuppers! In light of the additional info, I'm going to up the ante and say I'm thinking the snake (the one with scales) didn't do it .... waiting for those autopsy results.
Yep. This is now a different story.
I don’t buy this story one bit. A Python is not going to attack a sleeping boy unless he plans to eat him. And two sleeping boys? I don’t think so. Those kids were murdered, and an autopsy should show it was done by hands or rope, not a snake. I doubt that a pet store would even have a Python large enough to attack a boy.
When I was a boy I used to handle pet store Pythons and Boas, even let them curl around my neck.
