Its why I’m a big fan of more smaller power plants with a grid easily broken down into small pieces.

Much easier for local folks to rebuild and restore in the event of a serious flare induced takedown.

Ahhh, but so much harder for the Politburo to control, no?

Not so long ago, every little town had a power dam on a river or reservoir. Power was a municipal utility, just like water, gas and sewer. I wouldn’t mind seeing a return to that. Piecemeal can be good, for instance voting. Or electrical power. Or states, or counties within a state. All the hurdles you can throw in front of a sweeping negative event are fine by me.

There used to be lots of little power plants all over the place. My great grandmother’s brother was a switchkeeper at a small hydroelectric plant in Northern Michigan till the big power company bought it and closed them down in favor of centralized generation.

Now that same company is pimping wind at higher rates.
