This is nothing new. I remember back in the early sixties, if caught with gum or candy being told that unless I had brought enough for everyone I was nor allowed to have it. At the time I wondered why it would be my responsibility to provide gum for everyone.

Actually, I think gum chewing is a good thing...it has a physical release effect and also lends to fulfilling our chewing necessity/desire. Might solve the childhood obesity problem.
