Local TV in Jacksonville reported a plane crash at NAS Jacksonville but went back to Trayvon. Nothing on the web yet so put this in chat. May have been a 737 with passengers. A series of 4 explosions sounding like transformers heard before the report, decreasing in loudness.Thunderstorms in area.
“Plane from Guantanamo runs off NAS Jacksonville runway; 167 passengers OK”

Heh, never seen a Delta flight to Jacksonville NAS before.
They’re doing AMC charter a lot these days.
we’ve just had a bad storm move through here but why is Delta at NAS
just asked the same, two of my kids came home from Camp blanding today and we passed NAS and I have never heard of Delta flying in or out of there , especially we have an international airport here
Thanks to all that dug it out. Must have been transformers. Didn’t hear emergency vehicles.
The article mentioned it is a weekly charter.
That does sound a bit odd that a Delta flight would land at a Naval Air Station.
There is a civilian airport on Eglin but that is because Eglin takes up all the land around.
Apparently the regular charter from Gitmo.
I should have read the whole thread before commenting.
Probably something to do with "force shaping" trends going on all over the military right now. Downsize service members and assets and contract what you can out to civilians. Delta is likely doing today for the navy what VR (logistics) squadrons took care of in the past --and for less money.
Maybe it is because there is a gap with a VR squadron transitioning to 737-900s.
Me neither. I used to live right down the street from NAS Jax and my sister and brother in law both worked there. Never heard of a commercial flight in or out of there. Military only.
I used to live at NAS Jax on base housing. Near the second hole of the base golf course.
I understand that the course was built by WW II German POWs.
I LOVED playing that course when I was in the Navy!
