Friend of mine in college played piano at one of the local black churches on Sunday mornings.
Going to sleep in that church was brutal. Just brutal. And black churches seldom have sermons that are over in 45m to an hour. Sometimes they go on for a couple hours or more.
This preacher was tame in comparison.
The Apostle Paul’s sermon actually killed one young man!
(Acts 20:9)
And that is why I could never, ever, I mean never, be a Baptist.
To all "preachers" out there, remember, brevity is the soul of wit. Live it and learn it.
Christ's sermon on the mount took how long, maybe 10-15 minutes? Who knows, I wasn't there, but he knew how to make a good point in a short time and knew that those are the lessons that are remembered. The Castroesque monologues are forgotten as soon as the speaker, finally, stops speaking.
