There are plenty of divisions in a nation of over 300 million people, from Democrats versus Republicans to Pepsi versus Coke. But most importantly is the one between cat lovers and dog lovers.

Dogs are still America's pet of choice with approximately 43.3 million households owning one or more dogs. Although the state with the highest percentage of dog owners is Arizona, with 47.9 percent or approximately 1.7 million households including a dog, the state mammal is the ringtail cat.
Cats are America's second favorite pet, with more than 36 million households having at least one feline resident. The state with the highest percentage of cat owners is Vermont with nearly half of all households including at least one cat. Their state mammal is the Morgan horse.

LOL! Perfect answer! [smiles]
Yes, shampooing random dogs could be dangerous.
I think cats are the way they are is by instint they are solitary hunters and therefore totally independent, except for lions. I love all cats but don’t like lions, never did, never will... even if you feed your cat, when out he will still hunt. Love cats don’t like hairballs and spraying to mark their territory...
I’ve got dogs, and cats, and even had a preemie goat (who passed away the next morning).
Whatever God sends to my gate, I take.
My condolences on the loss of your goat.
All my cats are former strays - they find me too.
Cats hunt alone, but they do form social groups. When you’re a member of a cat’s pride, it’ll let you know.
FReepmail me if I can help with hairball or spraying problems.
Dog owners are more humble. :)
Oh, *now* you tell us to stop fighting like cats and dogs.
:)
Your humility shines through. ;^)
Yeah, that’ll happen. ;^)
I’ll never understand the vitriol some people have when it comes to dogs or cats. I love animals and I’m equally enamored of both of these top pets.
Of course, dogs are so different that my view is tempered by that fact. I adore German Shepherds but look askance at many breeds. Cats are more homogeneous.
EXCELLENT brief assessment!
I can’t stress enough for all the dog-lovers and cat-haters, it is dogs who rip people apart. Not just pit bull terriers, but various dogs who get vicious and cause real damage. All the silly “dog is God” (not in German) comments that dogs are so perfect, I would like to post a pix of a dog mauling someone.
I love German Shepherds, but am not clueless about some of their reputation, nor would I ever “koochie-koo” a new dog. They deserve respect, not veneration.
You are almost exactly like me. GS nut, and I like cats. Haven’t had 1 in 15 years. Had several from my early days. My last in particular was so sweet and friendly, and had so many dog characteristics. My GS at the time was so wonderful and she had many cat-like qualities. Both were the best, ever. I think dogs should be like cats and cats like dogs!
I have to admit, I didn’t expect the responses on this thread to be so...ardent.
NEVER trust people who don’t like cats.
Interaction with a cat is a barometer of a person’s character. Cat’s are hyper-perceptive. And, they are infinitely judgmental. So, when a person does not like cats, 99% of the time it is because the cats are repelled by the person. And, it is for good reasons beyond the senses of humans. It is based upon voice recognition, body chemistry disclosed in smells, body language, and other elements. So, if your cat doesn’t like a person, ditch them. The cat is way, way ahead of your learning curve.
Dogs on the other hand like everyone with a biscuit or willing to pat their heads or play. Jeffrey Daumer had a dog. Hitler had a dog.
I’m not so sure that you two are right about a cat’s love being hard to earn. Other than a wild kitten I had to tame we’ve never had a cat who didn’t naturally love us. Some of them have been lap cats and some haven’t, but they’ve all been loving.
I’m so glad you noticed my spitz-like humility.
:-)
I have, although I do have one that fell in love with me at first sight.
Excellent post Anton..very well said. I too am one that will dismiss a person that does not like cats, they are not to be trusted!
“Of all God’s creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.”
- Mark Twain, 1894
They’re all wonderful.
There.
