There are plenty of divisions in a nation of over 300 million people, from Democrats versus Republicans to Pepsi versus Coke. But most importantly is the one between cat lovers and dog lovers.

Dogs are still America's pet of choice with approximately 43.3 million households owning one or more dogs. Although the state with the highest percentage of dog owners is Arizona, with 47.9 percent or approximately 1.7 million households including a dog, the state mammal is the ringtail cat.
Cats are America's second favorite pet, with more than 36 million households having at least one feline resident. The state with the highest percentage of cat owners is Vermont with nearly half of all households including at least one cat. Their state mammal is the Morgan horse.

A dog always looks up to his master.
A cat always looks down on his master.
But a pig...a pig will always look him in the eye.
That said, a dog — two of them — are our pets of choice.
I’ve always liked cats better than dogs, but only in the last few years have I asked myself why. I came to realize that I enjoy the challenge of obtaining a cat’s love. A cat will definitely tolerate you if you feed it, but it takes more than that to win their affection. To see a cat change from being completely feral to being an affectionate housepet is very cool. Just tonight, a feral cat that we’ve been feeding for a while (we trapped her and fixed her last year), FINALLY head-bumped my hand and let me pet her when I fed her. She crossed the kitty Rubicon! LOL! Not much to some people, but to me it was a thrill. ;o)
I’m with you. It’s a dog’s nature to love its pack leader (which is no way a slur against dogs). A cat’s love must be earned.
Don’t know about dogs, but cats make a nice stew after they’re treated a bit with a heavy duty meat tenderizing mallet.
Well, in that same spirit, “long pig” is supposed to be very tasty too! Not something I’d care to try, though.
“Ive always liked cats better than dogs”.

My cats like me better then they like my dog ;
In the last four years here, I have had a vast collection of feral cats. One very nice female had four kittens under the table one night. They are now a month old and a real delight.
I was once feeding as many as 8 cats a year ago, but four were poisoned?, accidentally or deliberately.
A few weeks ago, my neighbor brought me a kitten that he found in the middle of the road, about a mile away.
It is doing ok now, and even nursing from the mother of the other four.
Kittens are free to a good home.
All you do is pay shipping from Cebu island, Philippines, hahaha
Its a dogs nature to love its pack leader

Indeed. I’ve read that by contrast, cats relate to “their human” as a substitute mommy. I guess I enjoy being Momcat!
I prefer dogs if I had to choose. That said I have 4 cats:) and they have grown on me. I still want a dog again some day. Our cats are all affectionate creatures with 1 preferring to bestow that affection primarily on hubby and one on me. the other two take what they can get from anybody. The one that only lets me cuddle her and runs from others is kinda spooky. She used to follow me around and she still sits there staring at me sometimes, looks like she is trying to figure something out lol. She likes to clean my hand and it almost seems like she feels she’s giving something back for the petting she gets:)
I cant stand a dogs smell. They stink. Other wise I’m all for them.
Maybe you should stop smelling under the tail.
I enjoy being a cat mama too! I have six of them!
Where we just moved to (Northern Arizona), a local fellow wants to rehome a purebred collie, which I think is the most beautiful breed of all... if I had better cash flow, I'd not hesitate, as we do have a fenced yard. But I spend enough money feeding the cats as it is.
When i had dogs, I liked them better. But I have since come completely over to the feline side of things. It's just so satisfying getting cats to purr!!
I love them both, but they are quite different animals!
Maybe you should watch your mouth.
Really? Did you identify a profanity somewhere?
That sounds about right. When my tomcat was younger he would occasionally “nurse” on my arm. He still kneads my belly. (Blood from a turnip there, of course.)
