BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Adam Arroyo has lived in his Breckenridge apartment for three years but has never experienced a day like this past Monday; when police busted down his door in search of drugs, shooting and killing his dog in the process.
"She's over here, chained up, and look at all these bullet holes man. Look at the blood right here," Arroyo explained as he showed Eyewitness cameras where his pit bull mix Cindy had been shot.
"She was tied up in the kitchen like I tie her up every single day, and they shot her for no reason."
When Arroyo returned home Monday evening he found his apartment torn apart, door busted down and several bullet holes in his kitchen wall.
He also found a search warrant for 304 Breckenridge, upper apartment.
The suspect named in the warrant was described as a black male and was wanted on suspicion of dealing crack.
Arroyo is Hispanic and lives at 304 Breckenridge, upper-rear apartment, which has a completely separate entrance and is clearly marked on his mail box.
Reporter: "You have never used or sold drugs in this apartment?" Arroyo: "Never. Never. I don't do drugs. I'm a United States veteran. I work everyday. I'm just trying to live my life."
Arroyo is a combat veteran who served in Iraq and plans to join the National Guard. This incident, however has left him heart-broken and angry.
"For police to wrongfully come into my house and murder my dog... It wasn't that they felt threatened. No. They murdered my dog," said Arroyo, beginning to tear up.
"That was my dog, man. That was my dog. They didn't have to do that, you know. They didn't have to do that."
Arroyo now has to pay to have Cindy cremated. He also had to repair his door at his own cost and has had to miss work.
He plans now to press charges against the City of Buffalo.
Buffalo Police spokesperson Michael DeGeorge says Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the case, but that police believe they had the proper address.
He also says detectives "don't believe the dog was chained or leashed" when they executed the raid. Adding that if any wrong doing is found in the investigation that officers will face consequences.
DeGeorge could not comment on whether officers found any drugs inside the apartment.
Looky here: I just found one more purpose:
Too subtle. :)
[In fact, I'm being killed right now so please pardon any typos]
“Lots of folks dont use their dogs for the functions of which they are capable.”
I do.
:)
OMG no...badgers are wicked things!
[and I’m pretty sure we don’t have them here, anyway]
:D
Undoubtedly the majority.
there is no reason that, with training, pitbull types can not excel in those functions.
There are distinct reasons why certain breeds are most prevalent in search and rescue, tracking, bird hunting, rabbit hunting, field trials, herding, pulling, guide/service dogs, etc. They've been bred for and have the natural characteristics to do certain tasks more effectively and successfully than other breeds. Not all purebreds are great at what they were bred and trained for. Occasionally even a Heinz 57 will excel at something one wouldn't normally expect. However, the majority of the time the beagle will be a far superior rabbit hunter to a St. Bernard. A Newfie will be far superior to an Akita at water rescue, a border collie will be far superior to a golden retriever at herding, etc., etc., etc.
Again?
Didn’t they already kill you last Monday, Wednesday, and twice before then on Sunday?
Let me guess, they must give Doberman owners: “Endure 10 maulings, get the 11th one free” promotions or some such....
With 12, he gets egg rolls.
:)
Doncha just love it when things fall into place, accidentally?

Forsyth County, NC -- A Triad search and rescue organization is mourning the loss of one of its search dogs. The dog, a border collie, was attacked last week by two pitbulls.
Monday, Forsyth County Animal Control said the border collie died. Tuesday, the pitbulls - one male and one female - were euthanized after the owner forfeited his rights to them.
Officers were called to a dog attack last Thursday in the southern part of the county. A witness told an animal control officer he saw two brown pitbulls from a home in the 3900 block of Laurel Grove Road run into a nearby backyard where they attacked the border collie.
The witness told the officer he chased the two dogs out of the border collie's kennel. The pitbulls' owner, Antonio Nowell, was not home at the time of the incident. Animal control spoke with Nowell's son who was advised by his father to sign the two pitbulls, Dillon and Nika, over to the officer.
Tim Jennings with Forsyth Animal Control tells WFMY News 2 that in March they visited Nowell about the dogs running at large and being potentially dangerous. Nowell was fined and given preventive measures to put in place, in order to control the dogs and be incompliance with county ordinance.
After last week's incident, the investigating officer said it looked like the pitbulls were able to dig their way out of the kennels.
Jennings said the case has been turned over to the Forsyth County District Attorney's Officer for further review.
Have you ever seen a similar story about Irish Setters, Golden Retrievers, beagles, poodles, Newfies or spaniels attacking and killing another dog?
Have you ever seen a simliar story involving properly contained dogs attacking and killing another dog?
I saw all the blood and the bullet holes in the wall, he recalled Tuesday. I collapsed, and I just started crying. I couldnt believe what was happening. Ive been crying all day.
Arroyos copy of the search warrant lists the names of Narcotics Unit detectives who were looking for crack cocaine in his apartment.
They trashed the place, he said. It looks like a tornado hit it.
One neighbor who was outside prior to the raid said she saw about half a dozen unmarked police cars, before roughly seven to eight officers entered the house.
All I heard was gunshots. Boom. Boom. Boom, said the woman who gave only her first name, Jen.
Then I heard my friend say, Wow, they shot his dog.
I fought for this country, he said. I put my life on the line for this country. I got shot at so this could be a free country. And this is how Im treated afterward?
Arroyo said his dog had a great temperament and was a favorite of neighbors. Kids in the neighborhood used to come by to pet her.
Tuesday, he took Cindy to the SPCA Serving Erie County.
Im going to have her cremated, so she can always be with me, he said.

Rest in Peace, Cindy
I'm sure if you're interested, you could find many other reports.
Properly contained dogs don't kill other dogs who are on their own property.
The breeds most likely to kill
As of May 25, 2013, the USA death count from dogs in 2013 is 14. Of these, 13 people were killed by pit bulls. In recent years, the dogs responsible for the bulk of the homicides are pit bulls and Rottweilers:
The Clifton study of attacks from 1982 through 2006 produced similar results. According to Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes were responsible for 65% of the canine homicides that occurred during a period of 24 years in the USA. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.)
Looks like an Akita or mix. Hadn't been vaccinated since 2009. Apparently trained for fighting? Good thing no unattended children were in the vicinity.
What penalty do you feel is appropriate for the killer dog's owner?
I don't have to get reports from Israel. There are too many here in the US.
