Some people, it’s just best to say “bless them” and pray for them; and then just IGNORE them, spending as little time as possible around them. Insofar as it depends on us, we should live at peace with all people - that’s the catch - sometimes there are people who don’t want peace. - Be who you are. Heaven knows, liberals are, and are loudly and unapologetically. - Live your life.

You’re right. They’re wrong. Don’t give in. Don’t be mean, don’t be nasty, be loving and pray for them, but never give in and never compromise.

I'd tease you about the vanity, but I know it's a very upsetting situation. So here's my $0.02:

The basis of a free society is mutual respect. Saying "I disagree with you" is perfectly respectful, saying "You're a miserable racist Tea Party hatemonger" is not. The country is intensely polarized at the moment, and this is nearly all the result of deliberate actions by the Left that are designed not to foster political discourse but to suppress it. These are not actions of friends, they are actions of people who consider themselves enemies and are willing to act that way because there are so few consequences.

My advice is to cut them off completely until it stops. I'm serious - no social relationships, no dinners, no picnics, no impassioned phone conversations over politics or anything else. Cold turkey. When you meet them, if politics comes up, leave. Snarky comments inserted into conversation, leave. They'll try to sneak it in and run - you need to draw the line and keep it, hard.

I know this because I've tried all the half-measures, the reasoning, endless toleration, changes of subject - nothing works because they don't respect you. I have relatives I don't speak to at all. They know why.

There may come a time when politics is less toxic culturally but I don't see it soon. Civil wars cost family relationships. It isn't one we declared but they're fighting it, and you're left with surrender, endless combat, or simply cutting them off. For your own peace of mind, stop letting them attack you.

There are two ways; you can soft pedal your values and agree to keep politics out of your relationship, or you can take a hard line and refuse to budge. (I've done this and had to bid farewell to some friends and relatives, with no loss or downside)

The truth is that there are two types of democrats or liberals:
1.) Those who truly wish to see the destruction of our country by tearing apart the Constitution and opening our borders, denying our Christian heritage, and weakening our defenses ...and
2.) Those who support the first group either with silence, votes or money.

You might ask those you have blocked which group they think they belong to and let them make the decision to disassociate.

I kicked my wife’s uncle, who also happens to be the head priest of our church, out of our house once for trying to lecture me on some foreign policy kerfuffle we were having.

He eventually got over it and learned not to talk politics while in MY HOUSE. What he does outside my home is his business.

You are who you are and they already know it, so keep up the good fight.

Facebook is exactly that. A face, a facade, a fictitious icon the feeble use to fool one another. If it were worth anything it would be called Brainbook.

If you apologise on this it will be thrown back in your face for the rest of your life, especially those times in the future when you happen to disagree with them on some matter. It will be used to belittle you.

Why shout? Just say, hey this is the way I am, that is the way you are, and none of this is really important enough to mess a family up over it. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and after you’re dead, your opinion is gone too. That’s really all it is, an opinion.

You don’t always have to be right.

I wouldn’t apologize for your views to anyone. If they can’t accept the fact that you are your own person, then just tell them if they are truly pro choice, then they should be open to your choice of politics which is totally opposite of theirs. Keep the fire of conservative values alive in yourself and keep spreading it wherever you can, because conservative values are more worthwhile to live by than liberal ideas....

Every time I have had a discussion with a liberal about some issue and have totally destroyed their reasoning and their facts, they never give up or apologize.

The discussion is ended when they say:
"Okay then, we will just have to agree to disagree".
After agreeing to disagree you can then move on to common interests.

Not knowing anything about you, I offer this opinion to you. Why should you pretend to be something you're not to make others happy? From your post, it seems that others are not willing to do the same for you. I raised my children the same way I was raised, elders are to be respected and although opinions differ, elders often have insight the younger have not yet attained.

For years, my children listened to my husband and I drone on about how dangerous the political class has become; about how many liberties are being taken with the Constitution and what a slippery slope we were on. At first, they listened respectfully and then it became apparent they were becoming uncomfortable. Recently, their life situations have changed in such a way that they began to understand what we had been warning them about for years.

Don't change yourself or do for others what they're not willing to do for you. Agree to disagree and leave it at that or if that's not possible, tell them you are who you are - take it or leave it. At least you'll know that social issues are more important than familial bonds.

For me, blood is only slightly thicker than water, especially in these days just before the war.

Matthew 12:46-50

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
