If you go through the list it's easy to agree with a couple of the examples provided.

I've always been partial to Star Trek myself.

This is bit of a silly topic but a little fun none the less.

What I’ve noticed as a grown up that I never understood as a kid:

“The Federation” is a giant UN fantasy where they don’t really want to kill the enemy; they would prefer the enemy made s’mores with them and sang Kum-By-Ah.

If Lucas has paid someone ten thousand bucks to write / edit the dialogue he’d have another billion dollars now. Truly cringe-worthy.

“4. Star Trek The Next Generation subjected viewers to having to watch Tasha Yar and Wesley Crusher.”

You know, he *does* have a point there... :-)

BTW, I’ll take Nichelle Nichols, Grace Lee Whitney, Michelle Forbes and Jolene Blalock over Carrie Fisher any day!

Loved Star Wars 4,5,6. But did not care for 1,2,3 too much. Liked Star Trek TOS. Star Trek 2 was the best movie. But did not care as much for TNG. Too much mealy mouth liberal crap and not enough action (though some was good)

So any fight where nerds slap fight like girls against each other between Star Wars TNG and Star wars episodes 1,2,3, will have to do it without me.

I will however square off with clenched fists against those who wish to denigrate Star TREK and Captain Kirk. ; )~ and when I do I will have background music from the gamesters of triskellion. And you can bet dollars to quatloos I will win. ; )~

The Federation are space Democrats based in San Fran.

Star Wars features rag tag Tea Partiers fighting an elite military like the revolutionary war, so Star Wars>Star Trek

Two words: Jeffrey Hunter :-)

That said, I was absolutely blown away by the very first Star Wars -- we saw it in the theater and when the spaceships flew "overhead", we thought that was the coolest thing ever -- the special effects ROCKED. Star Wars by a nose.

... sorry, Jeffrey ...

Somebody needs to run a picture of Jeri Ryan in her 7 of 9 uniform, preferably from the rear. I know her politics are revolting but she sure does spandex a big favor.

Jolene Blalock, Jeri Ryan, Commander Data, and the First Contact music (Roy Orbison’s oobie dooby and Steppenwolf’s magic carpet ride for starters). I love Star Wars, but I grew up watching Star Trek.

There would never have been Star Wars if not for Star Trek and its success in the market .

Main reason Star Trek is better than Star Wars:

Dialog...

(George Lucas can't write dialog. Case Closed!)

The scripts for the Star Wars movies are dreadful, and a trip through the Smithsonian Air & Space “Star Wars” exhibit was enough to reassure me that Lucas really is a pretentious blowhard. The exhibit was worth visiting (for fans) apart from the “quest” narrative that was on plaques throughout.

The first SW movie did, however, open the door for the big special effects movies (not just the sci-fi ones), bankrolled the CGI transformation, and ushered in practically everything that has followed.

In a real sense, the Star Trek franchise would not have been revived (probably) had it not been for Star Wars blowing the doors right off the hinges.

But there’s no comparison, IMO — Star Trek blows away Star Wars. The second group of three SW movies (the prequels) really, really sucked compared to the first three, which did a great job of referring to a backstory without having to show us, and wrapped up everything in a neat bow with “Return of the Jedi”. The opening gambit of ROTJ (the rescue from Jabba and that huge fight over that worm mouth) may be my favorite sequence from the entire series. But I’ve never gotten any of them on disk, or felt inclined to watch them again. I saw the atrocity of the cartoon Jabba in that restored footage in the original movie and realized just how low Lucas’ standards really are.

I’m not fond of the Star Trek reboot, either, haven’t seen the new one yet, may or may not see it, dunno. If I do, it’ll be in iMax.

I bought ST4:TVH on BluRay not long ago, hadn’t seen it in years, really enjoyed it (and it’s probably my favorite, though not their best, just the most fun), and also got ST:TNG “Best of Both Worlds” on BluRay, and enjoyed that, perhaps more than the first time. :’)

Watching "Star Wars" for the first time in the theater was a tour de force...

Sitting in the theater watching the rolling opening scene and the walls vibrating while a gigantic starship rolls out on tip of the screen...

It's easy to forget how much that film changed EVERYTHING in filmmaking...

Yes, Star Wars had a magnificent sound track and Darth Vader immortalized by the magnificent James Earl Jones. Star Wars (which I watched nine times at the theater when it came out and countless times on video after that) however has its foundation in the philosophy of Yoda, who counsels with such saccharine moral platitudes such as:

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

Wrong, you sanctimonious little toad. Fear is a survival mechanism possessed by every sentient being. Envy, covetousness, avarice, lust for power, cruelty, slavery, dependency, lead to hate and/or anger. Abuse of power leads to suffering. Fear is a reaction. Hate is an indulgence.

On the other hand, we have James T. Kirk, who says things like:

"Without freedom of choice there is no creativity. The body dies."

And:

"The only solution is ... a balance of power. We arm our side with exactly that much more. A balance of power ... the trickiest, most difficult, dirtiest game of them all. But the only one that preserves both sides."

Star Wars or Star Trek? No contest. Star Trek inspires.

I refuse to consider which is “better”.To me Star Trek (TOS) and the first three Star Wars releases are both outstanding.Unlike many,I have no use for any of the Star Trek series after TOS or any Star Wars releases after “Episode VI”.

I consider Star wars as Conservative, Rebels fighting against an evil empire.

Star Trek is a liberal prophesy, sheep and lions coexisting, ultimate Police State with star cruisers, supremacy through humanitarian compassion, liberal compassion, liberal bullshit.
