I agree...how could you miss another horse on your farm, in your barn etc. for nearly a year!
Your posts show both of you are not familiar with ranching. Depending on the size of the ranch, it is easy for someone to dump an extra animal into your herd without you recognizing it for a period of time.
This is why all medium and large ranch outfits use branding or ear tags. Having an extra or one missing will eventually become known. Usually once a quarter or half year depending on the ranch, the rancher will either inventory his herd or need to make some provision for health checks but some never get inventoried until roundup time sometimes a full year later.

We have horses...mares & stallions. We have had as many as 7 here at one time, and we have had 6 foals born here. We would know ‘instantly’ if there was a stranger carousing around the pasture. We pay attention to our horses and to our small farm. A total idiot!
