Finally, after years of dreaming, we've finally moving from New Yorkistan to America (the outskirts of Atlanta, to be exactly)! I accepted the transfer offer today, for a position that I really wanted & I'm pretty sure I'm going to love. And to all the Georgia residents out there, I solemnly swear that we will not mess up your state. We're moving to Georgia because we like what it is, not because we want to change it.
Having been raised in captivity, I'm thinking it may take us a while to adapt to the wild (AKA freedom). But I'm positive that we're going to love it!!!
Once we're down there, I'm switching my username to "EscapedFromNY".
Congratulations on your escape! We left NYC area 9 years ago and moved to Pennsylvania.
First thing we did was get our concealed carry permits and handguns. What fun!
I do miss the food and salt water but that’s about it!
Good Luck!
Congratulations on getting the position and your new move! You sound very excited and I am sure you are going to love your new state. Hugs!
From one former NYer to another.....
Leave that NY Bulls**t up there.
You’ll be kicking yourself in the ass for not doing it sooner. But, better late than never.
seriesly, congrats !
Great headline! Congrats to you and your family.
Its closer to $72 I think. I renewed mine a couple of months ago. But it lasts for 5 years.
Still worth it.
GA is great, if you can handle the heat and humidity. Good luck!!
Interesting. Someone I know who lived in NY all his life moved to Cary about 10 years ago. He absolutely loves every aspect of Cary. So what area in NC don't you colonize NY'ers from the real south?
Boy the price has really gone up.
I remember when I first got mine around 1995, I showed up with a bunch of certificates showing I was a firearms instructor, hunter safety instructor, etc. and she didn’t even want to look at them.
I didn’t realize it at the time but they have no discretion, they have to issue it as long as you are not a criminal and got caught to boot. I think I got it in the mail in a week or two.
no my friend, it will be ; where ya’ll from?
Consider the area around Roswell. Personally, I love it. Buford is a little more rural. I can’t recommend Lawrenceville, even though I used to live there.
Congratulations! I am escaped from N.Y. more than 20 years ago when I joined the Marines.
Come south and feel the freedom.
I was being politically correct;)
Well, congratulations! We just returned on Saturday from spending almost 2 weeks in Georgia. What a wonderful state we found it to be.
Only an insane person would move Down East, my home. It’s a hole, as my dear mother would say. Like the Bronx of North Carolina.
I presently live in the Yankee colony of Wake County, in the Central part of the state. It’s where I teach and make a fairly good living.
But note: I don’t hate Yankees. I lived in New Jersey for six years while courting my wife, and had a wonderful time. The people of New Jersey (and NYC) are friendly and pretty funny, truth be told. I was pleasantly surprised.
The difference is we here are inheriting the losers, who couldn’t make a go of it in their home state. They move here, bring their loser attitudes, and give all Southerners the wrong impression of Yankees, particularly those from the NE. I am forever explaining that one shouldn’t measure Yankees by the pitiful unemployable immature freaks we have pouring into the area today. They are pathetic, though.
Southerners assume if it’s a Yankee, it’s a loser, fairly or not.
My wife, by the way, is Cuban, not NJ-esque.
Don’t subscribe to The Atlanta Unrinal and Constipation. LOL
Congrats on your new job and upcoming move! May God bless you and your family in this transition, give you safe travels, and provide you with nice people and places along your way. Atlanta has its share of problems, just like any other metro area, but some of the smaller cities near it are very nice.
You may find that Georgia is a bit more liberal than you would have expected. Emory University and UGa are both very liberal universities; Atlanta is one of the mecca’s for gay/homosexual types, and reverse prejudice is part of everyday encounters. Georgia’s tax structure is a bit screwy, too. You’ll like the mountains in the north (go to Helen GA for Oktoberfest!), and the coastal areas. The southern plains (peach, peanut and cotton country) is flat, flat, flat and hot, hot, hot (I can say this cuz I was born in Albany GA!) and the Carters live there (yeah, that one, the former prez who is an embarrassment to the USA). It’s also the infamous birthplace of the KKK, and that always seems to be under the radar doing something somewhere...
And, sadly, some of us Southerners still do have too long a historical memory of that horrible time when a wide swath was burned, pillaged, raped by the union army under Sherman. I don’t think some of us will ever get past that...
On the other hand, it is the Bible belt, you will find some really wonderful people there, some awesome football, sweet tea, great food, and beautiful views. Come with an open mind, pray with an open heart, and let God handle all of it.
You’ll be fine! :)
