Music thread for all you old hippies (vanity, oh yeah)
some former hippie

Posted on 03/16/2013 3:31:44 PM PDT by West Texas Chuck

Who among us used to be one of those long-haired flea-infested dope-smoking denizens of the rock concert world?

Guilty. And recovered.

Post up some old tunes for a Saturday night.

Great! Never heard that one before. That’s what makes this thread useful (unlike the posts of lists proving that the poster has the pedestrian mainstream taste.)

Then tell us, explain, the purpose of, uh, sharing with us those lists of yours.

What makes one valuable to others is uniqueness of one’s contribution, I think. Who needs to know my recipe for apple pie, or for mashed potatoes, which is already known to everyone. I’ll give you a recipe for mashed potatoes that includes bulgarian buttermilk and bacon chips. Not many know it.

Popular taste is Danielle Steel, Thomas Kinkade and Dan Brown, thank you very much, I’ll pass. As for Peter Frampton, his multi-million selling album “Frampton Comes Alive” was at one point on the lists of the worst rock albums ever. Popular taste. What’s to brag about if you follow the crowd?

Notice though, that’s Steve Howe in the video, even though he didn’t play on the studio version.

The 2000s was a dark period for music. Terrible radio bands designed for 10 year olds like ... Nickelback...

Man, that's cold. I'm an old acid rock, headbanging, psychedelic funkateer from way back (pushing 60 now), and I absolutely love Nickelback.

“Really? Bread???”

I'd like to see you say that to my wife! At least they can sing a beautiful tune. That is one of the factors which made the Beatles successful was their ability to sing well and in harmony. A number of the hard rock bands went on to make big success despite being unable to sing. That is what has led us to the rotten excuses for music released in more recent years. I'm more interested in the melody and instrumentals, so I can tolerate some of the hard rock better than my wife. She is only interested in the lyrics and vocals, so the instrumentals in much of the hard rock unless it harmonizes right is just so much noise to her. For the same reasons she doesn't much care for classic symphonies. I like the classical music because of the instrumentals.

I had a girlfriend back in the day who drew a picture of us floating off into the blue yonder, inspired by the song “If”, so don’t pay any attention to the naysayers.

Oh yeah!!!. In my case, I like so many others led a Jeckyl/Hyde music life. On a date, or with a girl friend, it would be Bread, the Eagles, Meatloaf, Dan Fogelberg, etc. By myself or with buds??.... 100 db of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc. in the 8 Track!!!!!
