It’s a reasonably pleasant spider-day here, too. I seem to be over the worst of “la gripa,” as the Mexicans say, or “the crud,” as we call it. At least I have enough energy to get up and stay up.
Tom has gone to mow the lawn for the Envirothon coach (for pay, although he’d do it as a Gesture if she hadn’t offered cash). She’s going to loan us a book about Invasive Species, for the extra Science Olympiad event Elen’s just been hit with.
After Kathleen’s first nap (just begun) and before her second one, we’ll go to the library and get the CDs of “Anna Karenina” back. Then I’ll have 3 weeks to listen to the second half. Will nerdy Konstantin Levin and dizzy Princess Kitty find bucolic happiness? Will Stepan Arkadievitch’s wife bump him off before he bankrupts them or infects her with an incurable social disease? Will the Communists assassinate Andrei Karenin before he bores them to death? If you know, don’t tell me!

At least I have enough energy to get up and stay up. Excellent news.
I can't imagine listening to Russian authors on audio. I can barely stay awake when I have to read them. <shudder>

New tagline. Stolen from today’s “Zits”.

I’ve read a lot of “classic” novels in recent years, and listened to others on audio. Usually I have “Great Courses” lectures for when I’m in the kitchen, but since Anoreth started “Anna Karenina,” I thought I’d give it a try. Now I’m stuck listening to another 15 discs to find out how it ends.
Fortunately, I’m actually interested in all the digressions about farming.

Movies. There have been a lot of adaptations of Moby Dick, including one with Patrick Stewart as Ahab.

I didn’t read Moby-Dick when it was required in school - I pretended I had, and wrote a paper on the author. Maybe some day I’ll feel like it ... or like watching a movie with Patrick Stewart as Ahab. That could be fun.

Moby Dick was almost as long a slog as Les Miserables.
Almost.

Is always a great day when crud disappears. Beauty abounds in this neck of the woods. The flowers are coming up; the trees are starting to open their buds (I has warned the trees to stop drinking buds); the spiders, chipmunks, birds and bees are coming to life. Only one thing is missing and that is the rain. Coming to an area near us soon, as in tomorrow, Rain, then all will be right in the living room as the showers fall and the pollen comes to welcome us with sneezes, watering eyes, constricted throats, coughs and wheezes. Spring is wonderful and I'll never complain!

Is always a great day when crud disappears. I'm assuming you're not referring to this wonderful city I live in as I would have no source of employment if it disappeared.
But I often wake up, remember I'm in New York, and say, "Crud!"

remember I'm in New York, and say, "Crud!"Periodically while driving along the scenic shores of the Hudson, Harlem, and East rivers I search for the points where the mooring lines are secured...
I figure if we can slip the mooring lines it will float out to sea... ;-)

It’ll sink like a rock. Even Hizzonner Bloomberg’s hot air couldn’t keep this island afloat. The brains of the liberals who run the place are far too dense.

My second grandson (the daddy) is 23.
His brother is 26, but brother’s wife is unable to have children. :o[
My youngest grandson is 11, and the next one up turned 16 in December. No girls.

Well, at least none of them are spiders. If they were, you’d probably have thousands of GGGchildren at this point.
