Take them out for a walk and kill two birds with one stone.

LOL, you should see my Blue Heeler. Normally a very lean breed. She is as big as a VW Bug.

I thought the enviros wanted to kill all our pets, at least cats and dogs? Do they now want them fit and trim when they gas them?

But, we want all our animals heavy! Heavy cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens, rabbits. We get paid by the pound!

I already knew roughly 50% of Americans were liberal, but had no idea that half the animals were also.

kitty ping...

My kitties get quite plump in the winter when it’s not fun to go outside & play in the rain & mud. But come summer, they get into fighting trim.

Manufactured pet food is not what cats and dogs are meant to eat. Corn, soy, wheat, and all kinds of cheap fillers are not for their teeth or guts. I would guess that more pets are indoor pets than they were a few decades ago; therefore, they have fewer opportunities to hunt for what they need.

"Papa, what kind of dog is that?"

"That's a fat lab, son."

Read the average dog food ingredients and the first thing on the label is corn. Dogs and cats eat meat in nature. They are not designed to metabolize grain. So, they get fat, just like feedlot cattle, when fed a dog food with a high grain percentage.

I assume this is a crisis requiring immediate government intervention?

Maybe Chewbacca can kick off a “lets fetch” campaign funded by corporate jet owners and big oil.

Said it before and will again- no such thing as dogfood. Best tip I ever received from my favorite Vet. And my dogs enjoy their meals infinitely more because if it. And let us face it, eating is a huge player in a dog's existence! There are certain foods they cannot digest and therefore toxic but only a handful. Beyond that eat well and share. Note: all my hounds have lived well into their teens and they have all been larger breeds. Oh, and daily vigorous exercise is paramount.

Egad. If there ever was an answer to the question of “Why do the poor in the Third World hate us?”, this issue would be a good one.

I’m appalled how people are always stuffing their dogs full of treats. It’s disgusting.

I saw this personally by my husband’s uncle who loves English Springers. When I first met the family I saw how fat their current dog was. They had a whole closet full of dog food and whole variety of treats. They loved giving treats all the time. The dog loved it. This dog was 100 lbs. Bloated as a hog. The corker was when a person at the park they walked in (where the dog was a popular fixture, and regulars there also gave him treats) thought he was a St. Bernard! ROFL touche!

My husband said their previous Springer, female, was not food motivated. But they always shoved food in her face. He said the dog looked tired of their harassment and seemed to be looking at them like “if I eat this 1, will you stop bugging me?” She was not fat.

There’s actually a theory that it’s the bacteria in our gut that has gone haywire. Rats being used for scientific experiments are getting fatter, but are being feed exactly what they’ve always been fed.

FWIW

The vet calls my Siamese "Chunky Monkey".

I call him livestock for lean times. He does not see the humor in it at all.

Cats were never meant to be inside animals....they have claws and hunting abilities for a reason. Now, they are stuck inside small apt.s never walking on grass or climbing trees. They get very little exercise.
