Yeah I bet his britches were full too.
LOL
I can’t even remember the last time I saw a Rebel Battle Flag at a race.
NASCAR is dead to me now....
I'm with you. I find it hard to garner sympathy for people who sit in expensive front row seats at dangerous sporting events where they can get hit by debris, or an errant hockey puck or a baseball bat, or a foul ball. You think it's cool to sit up close to these things? Expect to pay the price, you and whoever you're with, including your loved ones. Same thing for people who participate in these sports or who do dangerous stunts and get killed or hurt. No sympathy: they know what could happen.
Well....Bless your heart! :)
My uncle took me to Bridgehampton Raceway on Long Island back in 1963 ( I was 10 ) for the NASCAR Grand National finals which Richard Petty won . I don’t remember why I liked Fireball , but I did , and after the race I shyly walked over to him standing by his car and asked him to sign my program , which he did . Kept it for years but it got lost or tossed by someone many moons ago .
When I was in high school, (I graduated in 1965), all of the boys would keep up with who won the Daytona 500. It was not so much that we were NASCAR fans. It was who would get bragging rights between Ford and Plymouth. There were other brands too but that was the big two.
After Daytona, we hardly even noticed who won.
Here are some of the names o the drivers who drove at Bridgehampton that day : Richard Petty ( won and got $ 1000 ! ), Fred Lorenzon , Fireball Roberts , Joe Weatherly , David Pearson , Bobby Issac , Buck Baker , Lee Petty ...Petty 1st in a Plymouth ; followed by 2 Fords, a Dodge and yet another Ford in 5th , so I hear ya re: the Ford / Plymouth-Dodge rivalry .
NASCAR is no longer about middle America. It is about making tons of money for the NYC and SF promoters and hustlers, and many of the same people that now want to take your right to bear firearms especially AR15s and keep open borders so as to take your Social Security.
To be honest I hope NASCAR gets sued big time for their abject failure to protect the most enthusiastic fans and to those who were injured, because the owners are too cheap to provide a real barricade to protect fans who pay big money from the bouncing 200 mph tires, while they do everything to protect their drivers.
