Here's a little something for those who may not be Irish but know that St. Pattie's Day is next Sunday and want to be IrishforaDay...

Which brings up a curiosity question from one who is neither Irish nor Catholic... Since St. Pattie's Day falls in Lent, at least this year, how is the 'traditional' corned beast reconciled with the Lenten fast?

I mean, Corned Beef I understand. Corned Haddock (e.g.) just doesn't seem to evoke the same, um, hunger... ;-)

St. Patrick’s Day is on a Sunday, and the Lenten fast, no matter how, specifically, one is observing it, does not apply on Sundays.

If it were on a Friday, abstinence from meat would be expected. However, some Bishops will grant an exception for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
