Made sixty newspaper seed-starter flowerpots yesterday, will fill w/seed starter today, and then (for a change) read the directions on the seed packages to see which ones germinate in the dark, etc. This is the first time we’ll have attempted to grow from seed. That picture wasn't nearly as shocking as the price tag on the teppan-yaki steak dinner I had in Tokyo this evening. You know, that's the meal where the dude flashes his knives all over the place, flipping the ingredients around a large griddle area in front of your table before finally sliding the bill up under your ribs.

I could've served large porterhouse with all the usual trimmings to four people for what this eight ounce cut with a few vegetables and small bowl of garlic-seasoned rice cost. That I wasn't the one coughing up the exorbitant amount of dough for the meal is beside the point; I'm philosophically opposed to shelling out that kind of money for food that is merely adequate, as this was.

Our guests are still in town until Thursday, and tomorrow, a shopping trip to Ameyoko is on the agenda, so there should be some good street food in the offing, and Wednesday's yaki tori dining should prove outstanding.
