Russian PM not joking – extraterrestrials live among us according to MIB documentary

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s off-air comments that Russian Presidents are given a secret file about extraterrestrials living among us created much media interest. Most news reports claimed that Medvedev was simply joking. His apparent reference to the Men In Black movie as a source of information on a super secret agency that monitors extraterrestrials on Earth was commonly cited as key evidence that he was in fact joking. The reasoning is that no political leader would refer reporters to a comedy to clarify national policy. It has now emerged that Medvedev was not referring to the Men in Black comedy after all, but to a recent Russian television documentary titled “Men in Black” that reveals many details about an extensive cover up of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.

However, a more accurate translation of what Medvedev actually said about the Men in Black phenomenon was: “You can receive more detailed information having watched the documentary film of the same name.” So Medvedev was referring to a Russian “documentary film” titled Men in Black, not the Hollywood blockbuster by the same name...

Russian Men In Black (MIB) documentary, a number of prominent UFO cases in Russia and the USA are discussed. The Roswell UFO crash is covered, along with a number of extraterrestrial abduction cases, and UFOs disabling nuclear weapons facilities. The documentary examines testimony that extraterrestrial bases have been established on Earth, and that some are in restricted US military areas with the full knowledge of the Pentagon. The documentary even goes on to seriously discuss President Eisenhower’s alleged meeting with extraterrestrials, where agreements were reached with some of the visitors giving them permission to take some of the Earth’s resources in exchange for advanced technology...

...On owning a dog...

Missing the point. Those arbitrary edicts are from multiple religions. The dog prohibition is Muslim.

Like laws, some religions tenets are there more from the arbitrary will of the controlling class than from anything a Universe spanning Deity would give two tin turds about.

The appendix has a use.

That was exactly my point. Our "brilliant" doctors decided we had evolved beyond it because they couldn't figure out a use. They yanked them (tonsils too) because they didn't know they were useful. Then, "Oops, we figured it out."

We've been far too arrogant in thinking we knew about the body.

(Asimov actually wrote a story of a future in which men didn't have appendixes - er - appendices - er appendixii - er whatever.) Foolish evolution theory strikes again.

That’s right pretty. Not only useful for putting on shoes, but for eradicating pests.

I don't pay attention to Islam because it fails basic logic tests of any religion claiming to represent reality. I also don't pay much attention to the priestly class of Christianity, which is the religion I practice. They're just people and as likely to abuse religion for political purposes as any other person is.

The prohibition against pork for Jews and the sacredness of the sabbath for all make a lot of sense - there's nothing arbitrary about them. (Note how Jesus correctly interpreted the sacredness of the Sabbath - as against what the Priestly class had imposed on the people.)

No, just that he was a servant and it was his right ear. You have to read the Old Testament laws about Jubilee to know that it was a possibility that Malchus (I think that was his name) had had his ear pierced out of love for Ciaphas.

Oops. I meant to cut out the parenthetical comment after I looked it up on BibleGateway and corrected the name. I'm honestly not trying to make myself look smarter than I are.

Let's not go there. Unless you are prepared to discuss ritual cannibalism, the violation of a married woman (with, or without her consent), transmutation of matter, and the entire book of Leviticus.

This is why I started looking directly at moral codes rather than the mythologies in various religions. What was the baseline calculus behind each?

Ten Commandments and the 9 noble Virtues both have things to recommend them, although the 9 can apply without running into a supernatural basis for the epistemology.

The 9 are Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Industriousness, Self-Reliance, and Perseverance.

As a philosophy, they cover a lot and ad reducto doesn't trip over much in the way of logical failures.

Works for me. Your mileage may vary... ;-)

I am, but it's not required if you'd rather not.

Once you accept God for what He is (rather than what you'd like Him to be) the Bible isn't impossible to understand, but it isn't for sissies, either.

Which gets back to one of my previous points. Once you hit that point, it doesn't matter what religion you choose. The above could just as easily apply to the Odenic Rite as anything else.

That's likely not to be true. I don't know anything about the Odenic Rite, but I know the God who is represented in the Bible is not represented in the Koran. So, accepting God for what He is doesn't help in interpreting the Koran in the least.

This is why Jesus was able to interpret (fulfill in New Testament language) the Law with such authority. He knew the law giver. I think if the Koran had existed at the time, and Jesus had been asked to interpret it, He quite possibly would have responded, "Why bother?"

As far as written words go, God, as He is, is well represented in the Old Testament and well interpreted in the New Testament. There are other books. Some may be valuable. But these two are sufficient.

Shoes are supposed to be functional, not cute.

They should provide proper support for the arches, a proper cushion for the heels, and a pointy toe for kicking the crap out of people who annoy you.

Yes. It is. Once you take on FAITH that what you have read and have been told by other humans is true, then it really doesn't matter any more. Reality takes a back seat at exactly that point...

My view is, we get tied up in the mythology and lose the message. Just as we are doing here.

This is nothing new.

But that's not what I said. What I said was, once you accept God for who He is, you can properly understand what the people who knew Him (in this case, the authors of the Bible) have said.

You're right that there is a problem when people watch reality come into direct conflict with their theology and choose theology over reality. Many people do that. But since God is the ultimate Reality, then it must be possible to have a theology that doesn't conflict with Reality. You just have to have the courage to admit when you've been wrong.

Which is an article of Faith. Which again, proves my point.

There is as much evidence for the existence of Zeus as there is Jehovah. In fact, same for Shiva, Odin, Thor, the Great Spirit, Vishnu, Enki, and any number of others.

Only our personal faith tells us which one might be "right" for us.

Or does it? As I theorize, could they all hold "part" of the truth? That not only do Deities exist, but that our place relative to them has less to do with any one particular religions edicts than we conceitedly think.

I know, huh? I’d buy them! But I don’t need them, and for a while, I have to focus on the vital practicalities of any item I consider purchasing. Such as, walking shoes, window tint, road service coverage on my vehicle, etc., etc., etc.

I got the rug vacuumed and got about half of it shampooed before my back gave out, so I’m done for today. It doesn’t seem to have been especially dirty, but there were pet stains on the underside, so the shampoo was really necessary.

It will look really nice in here when I get it put in.

We have a Winters worth of pet stains, toddler stains, kindergartener stains, and pre-teen stains on our upstairs carpets.

I’m seriously considering yanking it all out and putting in laminate flooring...
