Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedevs off-air comments that Russian Presidents are given a secret file about extraterrestrials living among us created much media interest. Most news reports claimed that Medvedev was simply joking. His apparent reference to the Men In Black movie as a source of information on a super secret agency that monitors extraterrestrials on Earth was commonly cited as key evidence that he was in fact joking. The reasoning is that no political leader would refer reporters to a comedy to clarify national policy. It has now emerged that Medvedev was not referring to the Men in Black comedy after all, but to a recent Russian television documentary titled Men in Black that reveals many details about an extensive cover up of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.
However, a more accurate translation of what Medvedev actually said about the Men in Black phenomenon was: You can receive more detailed information having watched the documentary film of the same name. So Medvedev was referring to a Russian documentary film titled Men in Black, not the Hollywood blockbuster by the same name...
Russian Men In Black (MIB) documentary, a number of prominent UFO cases in Russia and the USA are discussed. The Roswell UFO crash is covered, along with a number of extraterrestrial abduction cases, and UFOs disabling nuclear weapons facilities. The documentary examines testimony that extraterrestrial bases have been established on Earth, and that some are in restricted US military areas with the full knowledge of the Pentagon. The documentary even goes on to seriously discuss President Eisenhowers alleged meeting with extraterrestrials, where agreements were reached with some of the visitors giving them permission to take some of the Earths resources in exchange for advanced technology...

Cleaning is a lot like eating. You get done, and a little while later, you have to do it again. My mother seemed to think each was a waste of time.
Ungh...wisdom teeth. All four of mine were horror stories that would make Darks shudder. The teeth don’t bring you wisdom, unless it is to have them removed sooner rather than later. ;o]
Yes, I did. It’s like the glove department in your car. Or having feetza for dinner. ;o]
Or to misquote a niece from years ago, *ucky Fried Chicken.
(But you didn’t hear me say that...)
Because the two episodes have different casts, I think it helps to give them time-separation when watching them.
Watching them consecutively might be like watching Harry Potter with the kids switching roles.
I think Part Three may be filmed. I hope so.
Thanks for the warning. I hope there’s a decent exposition so I can sift the characters.
I read the book, so I’ve been explaining who’s who as we watch, I’d hate to get it all screwed up.
All four of my wisdom teeth came out easy.
Odd, but I guess I got lucky.
Though they did have fun putting me under.
Apparently redheads are naturaly resistant to anaesthetics.
I read the book too. I find it interesting, and Rand exemplifies the point, that the worst examples of dystopia come about when the writers describe their version of Utopia.
Is it redheads? Or Native American redheads? I’ve NEVER gone under easy in the dentist’s chair. They give me time for the numbing to take effect and I scream when they probe. Yah. WRONG sedative!
They hated to see me coming. Worse yet, the teeth had hooks on the roots, so it had to be oral surgery. But they never told me why until it was over. Idiots. They could have saved a lot of time and effort if I had just known...
Am I missing something important? I’ve never read “Atlas Shrugged,” because it didn’t seem to be something I might be interested in. Now, of course, I read the conversations y’all have, and I wonder: Am I better off not knowing? Or could I be improved by knowing?
*waiting*
Apparently teh mutated gene responsible for red hair also inhibits the function of anaesthetics.
The degree that it does it somewhat varies from person to person.
My life has gone reasonably well without reading, watching, or listening to “Atlas Shrugs.” However, I do have the 48-hour recording of “Anna Karenina” out of the library!
masochistic. Don't bother unless you really love to hit yourself on the head with a skillet because it feels so good when you stop but the synopsis threads on FR are excellent - a good way to get the story without having to plow through the book
I can deal with it!
Welp. I was such a dark auburn that I never realized how red my hair was until I saw photos of me in the sunlight. Yah. I got it, Darks.
My hair goes crimson in summer if I get “too much” sun.
“Too much” is just enough to cause teh brown to lighten out.
And then I look kinda odd.
Red hair, black mustache.
I stared at the pages of Atlas Shrugs once and then gave up. It’s very tiresome.
Yepper...
See? I hope your mouth feels better soon!
That's because they didn't use the correct anesthesia...
I buy all of mine used at Rasputin or Streetlight.
I had the book in my library for twenty years and never read it.
And then a discussion came up, and I of course wanted to join in the discussion. So I read it. And yes, it did take a while, even for me. I read fairly fast.
It's a slog.
Rand does well, for a non-native English writer, as so many others often do.
I knew it would take a while to get through it, so I stifled my impatience and continued reading. It got more interesting with time.
Of course, in the last third of the book, it got very frustrating again. People were doing strange things for inexplicable reasons. That's not the way to create a mystery, and it's certainly not the way to create a dystopian novel of economic enlightenment.
But it is far too late to remonstrate with Ayn Rand now. What she has written must stand on its own, and fortunately, it does that very well.
It is not an exaggeration to say that this novel was ripped from today's newspaper headlines. Those of you who have had the audacity and perseverance to follow economic and political matters recently will recognize the dialog, and the speakers, as familiar voices which you have heard speaking this litany of greed for power.
It is very familiar. That is the astonishing thing. The novel was written ages ago, and yet Rand nails the very words of our current politicians, as much as if she were there in those smoke-filled rooms as they plotted our misfortune.
That is the attraction of this timeless book. Timeless because she has captured the spirit of lust for power that motivates these shameless usurpers.
It is not a must read. But it is a should read. Eventually, you may even agree that it is a should-read-again.

Local stores?
There is a shop in Vegas that has so many wonderful albums of every kind, and I have been so bereft of wheels that the shop has faded somewhat. Now, however, when I have the time, money and gas, I will go there again and browse long enough to see what is there, now, and maybe find something good to bring home.
