No need to get your knickers in a knot, that is just a later verse, as here are the complete lyrics:

WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

I’ve noticed this too although the change from Parson Brown to circus clown isn’t new. I remember hearing this version with the alternate lyrics many years back. However, the circus clown version of the song is getting more prevalent.

The reference to “circus clown” is supposed to be in a later verse about a snowman...did they just leave out two verses?

Step by step, day by day, the leftist/muslim alliance strip us of our Judeo-Christian heritage, until you wake up one morning and say “what happened”? Well, it’s happening, slowly but surely, and the real push will come when they try to destroy the 2nd amendment (underway) and then where do you go? Wake up, America, before it’s too late. Merry Christmas and a belated Happy Chanukah to our Jewish posters.

If Jews and Christians may not act to worship in the public square, then Judeo-Christian ethos - caring for a fellow man - has no place in policy making - or guilt tripping Jewish and Christian citizens to part with their wealth.

That’s been an alternate verse as long as I can remember. It’s not a new thing.

It just looks strange to hear little kids at a Christmas concert singing to Parson Brown about how soon he can marry them.

See, Johnny Mathis sang it that way the year I was born. Go to about 2:27.

Don’t worry. Once gay marriage is forced on all the churches, the original lyrics will come back.

In my public elementary school in the early 70s, we sang all of the Christmas songs including the religious ones. We ALSO sang a couple of explicitly Hanukkah songs. The Jewish kids sang ours and we sang theirs, and if anybody opted out, no big deal. (some of us mouthed EVERYTHING to get out of singing). Even outside of Christmas, we sung religious songs of obvious historical significance. As a Catholic, I found the words of Chester particularly parochial . “New England’s God forever reigns” sounds more like a collegiate fight song than a true hymn. As long as there is no chance of confusion, or saying anything that my faith would find blasphemous, no prob. No one thought I was Jewish because I sang “Tis the week of Hanukkah”.

Until groups go there and throw condoms at those responsible we have no hope. This is said in all seriousness because that is how they achieved this “revolution”. You are not going to stop them by being offended. If you don’t want to take it back, kiss it goodbye.

Hubby sings the ‘Marv Albert’ version.

Instead of ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ the verse is ‘Walking ‘round in women’s underwear...’

We were at BJs Wholesale club and he was absentmindedly singing this and this poor woman happened to hear him, spun around and stared at him with her mouth completely agape.

I slipped away, hid behind the clothes racks and laughed with my hand over my mouth. I had to let him own that.

Actually, the circus clown version is NOT in the original 1934 song.

It’s a 1950’s rewrite which tones it down for younger children.

From Wiki:

The bridge of the song contains the following lyrics:

“In the meadow we can build a snowman,
then pretend that he is Parson Brown.
He’ll say ‘Are You Married?’ We’ll say ‘No man,
but you can do the job while you’re in town!’”

In the period when this song was written, parsons (now known as Protestant ministers) often traveled among small rural towns to perform wedding ceremonies for denominational followers who did not have a local minister of their own faith.

The original bridge, about a couple who make a spur-of-the-moment decision to get married, was supposedly considered inappropriate for children. A 1953 version of the sheet music contains the following replacement bridge

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
and pretend that he’s a circus clown.
We’ll have lots of fun with Mister Snowman,
until the other kiddies knock ‘im down!
When it snows, ain’t it thrillin’?
Tho’ your nose, gets a chillin’
We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland.

Incidentally, I included the words Parson Brown when I recorded ""Winter Wonderland." The phrase circus clown is supposed to occur in the second verse -- not the first!

Went to Hallmark to get a small box of Christmas cards yesterday. Only about 10% had any religious significance, and the truly religious ones were all for Hispanics. It’s very sad. The corporate lockstep with Leftist agendas is really picking up steam in recent years.

Yes, I spoke my mind, and may do so with corporate headquarters as well, as I often have before, but stopping this rising tide seems a Quixotic endeavor.
