I think you are confounding genetic alcoholism with alcohol abuse. Two different things ~ many people ~ the majority actually, who are unable to metabolize alcohol do not use it and so do not develop any of the pathologies associated with the condition ~ that is, they do not develop alcohol abuse problems.
