Not a movie but does anyone remember the episode of “Dragnet” where the orphan kid sells his revolver to buy a present for his little brother?
I haven’t seen it in probably over 50 years and those which seem so good when I was a kid sometimes turn out not to be but that one really affected me.

I don’t remember that episode, but I vaguely remember a Dragnet involving a stolen Baby Jesus from a church Nativity display and a poor little boy who took it. I’m fuzzy about why he took it though.

I recently read a book (Kindle) about a man who watches an episode of "Dragnet" every night. Each episode is his favourite, with the original air date and plot description. For anyone who is a "Dragnet" fan, it's quite a treat.
The title is "600 Hours of Edward".
