Photographer Fubirai has spent the last five years documenting the lives of the semi-wild cats that roam the island in Fukuoka, Japan. The cats are fed by local fishermen and wander freely through the streets, boatyards, porches, and houses of the city. Heaven.

When my brother and I were in the Navy stationed in Japan, we went to a restaurant on that island. The main dish was delicious, but we didn’t know what it was, as that was before we learned to speak and read Japanese (we both knew Latin from the Jesuit school, but that wasn’t much help), and we had ordered pointing to a picture on the menu. As I said, the dish was delicious and it tasted like chicken.
