Now that the election has been completed, I know that I need to relocate. I am recently retired and I will sell my townhouse and move from Northern VA. But I haven’t yet narrowed the field of possible locations very much. GF and I have been entertaining the idea of purchasing a piece of rural property and constructing our own house. But we really want to be among conservative-minded folks.
We have been actively reading this site for a long time and always appreciate the opinions of those involved.
I would like to have as many opinions and suggestions about where we should begin our search for a new locale, as well as ideas on what other factors should be considered.
The western part of VA, TN, TX, PA, even NH seem attractive from a CoL perspective, as well as seasonal change and the prospect of lower taxes. (I have lived in western PA, AL, FL, NC, CA, and VA.)
A conservative in CA or NY will not have an impact on the map. They are troops cut off behind enemy lines struggling for survival.
Moving to TX where liberals are also fleeing to can help counter that effect and shore up electoral prize #2.
Moving to a battleground state could tip it right, and have a huge positive impact.
Sometimes selective retreating can ultimately win the war.
Wherever you move, I’d make sure it’s far enough away from big lib cities. When society crumbles, libs will move away from their cities, quickly. For me that would rule out any state in the Northeast.
I’d suggest TX, OK, MT, AR.
if price of any possible property is not a big issue
then you may not need to entertain the suggestion
of going to one of the real estate home-hunting/buying websites, and
using it to pretend you are looking for a certain kind of property in a certain area (even land for sale is on these sites)
and just seeing what the different offerings are like and how they are priced
any finding from that may not be the only or primary consideration, but at least you will have a feel for how far your money will get you for property in different areas
I have found that real estate markets vary a lot across the country and can be greatly affected by local conditions, turning what might be a bargain property in one area into an expensive choice in another - even though population size, mix of business, residential and rural areas are very similar

myself, I would also at least be considering whether or not such a move for me would be a move where I might be closer to family, or not
in my case, all of my seven siblings live across the country from me, and some live where I would not move to - not even their state, and others live where I might consider it - like Texas. the fact that I think I could like that state and live closer to family might affect this type of move for me;
maybe not for you

Mariposa County. Very conservative in spite of being in California, very beautiful in the Foothills of the Sierras, real estate very affordable, and you can surround your new home by acres and acres of woods. 4 definite seasons, and the Merced River close by for fishing and swimming.
Texas does have a few more libs. They’ve come here to take advantage of the oil boom. I can spot one a mile away too-they have a “not us” air about them. Wish they’d GTFO
Why not consider WEST Virginia?
Seems that only yesterday I read a post here on FR that in WV, EVERY county “voted red”, making it one of only two states in the country to do so. Sounds “conservative enough” to me.
And it’s not so far that you couldn’t plan for an easy transition and make an easy move...
Also, north/central Pennsylvania is both beautiful and conservative as well (though definitely an “enclave” within a blue state).

Rawles has already done a lot of work on this, and I’d agree with him 90%. It’s a good place to start for info.
Basically, be on the west side of the Mississippi to avoid the population, be a full tank of gas away from the major urban areas to avoid the Golden Horde, and make sure you have water for your garden.
There is some old advice to “summer it” and “winter it” in a place before deciding. Suggestion is to buy an RV or 5th wheel and try out living different places after you narrow down to a few. RV parks are very reasonable and nice and when you decide to settle you can get your money back by selling the RV, so it is low risk. I lived in a 5th wheel for almost a year and it was really fun to have a compact life and changing “neighbors” and to know I could leave at any time I wanted to. Pretty much a sense of freedom. Also you meet people from all over so it is a good way to find out about those other places person to person.
When I was looking for housing options in Texas I considered renting, buying a condo, or buying a house. I chose the house. Housing prices are very low in Texas. My son and I both said we sold shacks in RI,Conn, and bought mansions in Texas. Rents , on the other hand, are high and there are monthly fees that can make it more expensive than a mortgage. My development in North Fort Worth is building like crazy. The houses start at about $130. If that is over your price range you can look at existing homes around $110 and up. These are house less than 10 years old so they have all the bells and whistles, and you will have your own yard for your dog to play in. Good Luck.

No, they didn’t. They did retain the right to divide into more than one state.
I can think of no better choice for you than East Tennessee. No state income tax, staunchly Conservative, beautiful landscapes with rolling hills, very low cost of living. Come join us.
One correction, there is no payroll income tax in TN. There is though the Hall tax which taxes investment income

You’ll have to deal with the cold but otherwise it’s the ECONOMY, pure minded people (very few takers) and God’s country.
Quite frankly, there is still some question about whether or not we were re-admitted back into the Union properly after the Civil War, so whether or not we “retained the right to secede” may be a moot point. It really won’t matter when Texas decides it has had enough. We will just say, “We’re leaving. Too bad. So sad.” Texas was once a Republic and because of that has a reputation for being independence-minded. This attitude attracts those of like mind, especially out in farm & ranch country.
Our Attorney General has filed 23 or 24 (can’t remember the exact number) lawsuits gainst the feral govt. So, believe me when I say that at some point enough will be enough.

Only 4 counties in TN voted Dem. Shelby, Davidson, Hardeman and Haywood. I wouldn’t consider living in any of these with the possible exception of Davidson (Nashville)
