I am looking for a few private replies with the names of good aggressive attorneys in the Santa Monica CA area that handle financial fraud and the elderly. Whoever it is must be willing to actually step into a courtroom. The lawsuit target is a precious metals firm that recently settled a suit from the city attorney ,,, there is plenty of evidence already collected and available from the city attorney if they decide not to settle. The case specifically is in reference to a bait and switch from US coins that normally sell at a small premium over the gold value to European coins that are NOT collectible and are of recent mint dates and were sold to her at a markup of 79% over the intrinsic gold value. I am not in California and are not familiar with local laws if there are any good laws that could be applied/invoked to get additional damages that would be superb.
Thanks
If there was more than one state jurisdiction involved in these transactions this could be a federal criminal case.
I can’t help you directly, but did a Google search and attorney’s names come up that you can check out:
I just put “los angeles attorney fraud elderly” into Google:
Throw yourself on the mercy of the court and hope for the best.
Have e-mailed my atty pal. Give him some time to reply — I will get back to you one way or the other.
That the City Atty is involved could be a problem — perhaps you want an atty in WLos Angeles. Will let you know.
You should also contact thr attorney general for your state. They likely have a fraud division. That’s free and they can bring criminal charges.
Why hire an attorney when a baseball bat is so much cheaper and gets the point across a lot more faster.
re: Post #5 - Perhaps I misunderstood. is the city attorney you mention - the Santa Monica City Atty?
CA has always been a state surprising aggressive to fraud of the elderly.
There are websites where you can rate coin/bullion dealers. I have seen the coin dealers respond to posts and reverse decisions. Post the facts, and they will find you.
What’s the name of the scam company? Monex?
Good luck finding anyone to take this. It will take a lot of money to prosecute this case. How much did she lose?

1.) I’m 2,500 miles away
2.) I don’t want to be Bubba’s best friend for the next 5 years.
3.) The company in question desperately needs to sweep this under the rug as they barely escaped from criminal charges earlier this year.. I have leverage.
Thanks , I can get that info myself ,, it doesn’t tell me what I need .. Who are defendants AFRAID OF? Who takes things to court and who just bluffs and sends letters..
YES Santa Monica City Atty, check your mail please.
Try the law firm of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe..........
See reply#12 ,, NO , not MONEX .. this case is not hard at all ,, This company is one of the best known and this complaint is NOT UNIQUE ... prior complaint by city was settled a few months ago .. this would re-ignite it in a bad way for them ..
I’ve seen them ,, weren’t they plumbers?
“Try the law firm of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe..........”
LOL!
That’s about what N is going to get asking anonymous people on a message board — you need to be willing to do your own research of actually calling up attorneys and asking them.
N — you want an attorney who will take things to court — but even the best attorneys, and especially the best attorney are not going to take a small case to court — unless your elderly relative/friend was swindled out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
BTW —you should google this lawfirm. ;)
It’s nearly impossible to get the real scoop on lawyers ,, the bar limits what can be advertised or said making every firm sound like all the others .. I am not local to that area ,, locals know who fights , who wins and who the pretenders are,, and so will the defendant firm.. The firms with a “reputation” get results fast, very often with just a phone call or letter, because the people on the receiving end understand they WILL be mauled. I’m not looking for legal advice ,, just a handful of names to cut the phone book sized list down to a few that can be objectively decided amongst. Looks like I may have a good handful to look at ,, some names came up more than once .. a good sign.
It will take a little time, but look at the Martindale-Hubble attorney ratings. Attorneys rate each other, anonymously. They have a website. Also, call several attorneys offices that DON’T specialize in elderly fraud, and ask them to recommend someone. If the same names keep popping up, from the attorneys or their secretaries, you know you’ve found a decent one. Good luck, and I hope you clean their clock!
