(CNN) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who served 18 months in federal prison for bankrolling a deadly dogfighting ring, now has a dog.
"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet," he said in a statement released Thursday. "As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals."
He added that "our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family."

And that’s the truth. No glossing it over, no excuses. They are clever enough to do what is necessary to get out on the streets, and if the parole board falls for the stories, it is their responsibility.

So, when was his “epiphany”?
Did somebody show him photos of all his dead and mutilated dogs and he puked, cried and repented of his sins?
If that was in the news, I missed it.
Ironically, those who worship the false idol of football will be the first to ‘forgive’ him.
He’s a great player...sadistic brutality be damned.

Dad said some of the most brilliant, charming and talented men you’d ever want to meet were behind bars...and they should stay there forever.

By the way before the dog scandal remember twice during a game he flipped off the crowd and walked off the field.
He didn’t have morals then and now he doesn’t either. It is all for the football career.
A prime example is a pedophile...they should never, EVER be released. Hardened criminals are clever, and will do what they need to in order to be released.

It’s going to take more than a public display of a dog as a family pet and the mention of his children to convince me that he has lost his blood lust and violent heart.
And wasn’t he forbidden to keep dogs ever again by the court?
In the early 90’s I had to stop taking my beloved Minny with me everywhere I went because baiters were busting car windows and stealing dogs.
It wasn’t just “small dogs”.
GSDs, other Pits, Collies, Labs..just everything.
They start with “confidence building dogs” that suck at fighting so the Pit believes he can defeat any dog.
Then they gradually work up in size so the dog can defeat rivals equal to its own strength and drive.
Too bad some people are so blind in their prejudice to realize that “It’s just Pits dying. Who cares.” is BS.
Somewhere, some little kid’s sweet best friend was thrown to -trained- dogs to be slowly, savagely, literally torn to pieces and the poor thing never even offered up a defensive growl.
Sick Vick could describe how it’s done much better than I.

Mr. Vick has also paid a huge price for his conviction and paid his debt to society. I therefore have no problem with him being a dog owner. If God can forgive him, we should as well, especially those of us who also know and procaliam Christ as savior.
