well the title says it all!
Two Santana slow instrumentals I can think of are Europa and Samba Pa Ti.

Okaaaay!...”No More Looking Back”- from the Schoolboys In Disgrace album.
I wouldn’t have known which one you were, unless I had read your comment on the video...lol You ever bring that trike up to Thunder in the Valley?
I guess going back to the original Link Wray years means we should mention Duane Eddy.
Intro piano to “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie-Woogie Blues”
Uh, oh - that brings to mind Long John Baldry's - Don't try to lay no Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock n' Roll
Talk about a riff, Check out Mitch Ryder & Detroit doing a cover version of Lou Reed’s “Rock And Roll”. Shit hot!
“Watchtower” (Hendrix) #1....”Gimme Shelter” (Stones) #2
In terms of rock music, the series of notes, chord pattern or musical phrase that are repeated is called a "riff." I think it sort of translates into something we can hum or imitate and people will know what song we mean. An example of a song that has a memorable riff is "Smoke on the Water" played by Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple, or Louie, Louie played by almost everyone.
There a lot of memorable 'riffs' in rock and roll and there are a lot of memorable, or hit songs, that really don't have memorable riffs.
Some of the songs suggested in this thread are great songs, but not ones that I would consider as having memorable riffs that most of us would identify immediately. I think a good riff instantly and consistently reminds you of someone, someplace or some time.
An example of that would be "My City was Gone" by the Pretenders. While we may not remember where we first heard it, we all think of Rush Limbaugh when we hear it now.
Went to high school there (FT Hunt in Alexandria), burnt down the year after I graduated.
Went to merriweather once but I don’t remember who for. Mostly Cap Center. Saw Aerosmith at DAR Constitution Hall right after Toys in the Attic came out. Went to Shady Grove (think that was the one where the stage rotated).
Those were some days...
I went to the Cap Center only twice.
Once for Springsteen and once for the BOC/Foghat tour.
Both times, I was so far up in the rows that I got second-hand stoned.
The BOC concert was a kick, though.
I was sitting in front of a whole bunch of USMC and for whatever reason, they decided I was their ‘little mascot’ for the night.
They wouldn’t share their beer with my fiance, who got rather miffed when they picked me up and we all sang “Roadhouse Blues” quite drunkenly together.
Yeah, those were some days.
[I’ve loved Marines ever since]
LOL
Just look for the skinny red inverted mop.
That’s me...:)
Never made it up that far.
I have to worry about the dogs so trips have to be kept within a 2 hour drive to allow for time at events.
Used to catch big acts at the Cap Center for like 6-8 bucks.
The Who (Keith Moon still alive), ELP, Zappa...
Saw Aerosmith at DAR when they were just catching on.
Kind of a blur now, and hedonistic to boot but I remember the days fondly..Then along came work and life and responsibility and Ronald Reagan and things were never quite the same.
In the early 80s’, it was “NO STAIRWAY” and I’ve seen “NO HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN”.
Picky.
;D
That is beautiful.
.
If your in W. Maryland, Johnstown, should be well within the 2 hr window. But, I definitely understand not being too far from the babies.
I forgot about Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman”...
