On the other hand, I find diet cokes to be foul tasting to include the coke with no caffeine and no sugar.

Remember Tab? Now that was some 'foul-tasting' brew...

Ah yes, TAB, sweetened with saccarine so it had that weird chemical wang. I remember a friend’s mom who drank TAB. She’d have the big glass quart bottles sitting on top of the fridge. Now I’m drifting back to 1979 and remembering the soft drink aisles at the grocery store with all the glass bottles, seen from the height of a five year old. I really hope they invent a time machine some day. Would be too cool to go back and see things again.

Y'alls discussion of the niche-market Coca-Cola brands reminded me of the first non-cola[?] diet drink that I had in my youth, FRESCA! Introduced 3 years after Tab in 1966, it was the citrus'y "0 calorie" diet drink. According to the history on the net, it started by being sweetened cyclamates until banned by the FDA in 1969, then saccharin until '85 when it went Nutrasweet/Aspertame and then in 2005 that was supplemented with acesulfame potassium.

Ain't chemistry wonderful? Me, I'll either drink the original 0 cal beverage of di-hydrogen oxide or a decent root beer. Just call me old fashion!
