the best thing is for everyone to yell LETSROLL GET HIM! AND CRUSH HIM TO DEATH SLOWLY. (Well almost to death, got to leave something for the intelligence geeks to squeeze.)
total agreement
I heard people say that when they tried to leave someone told them not to. Interesting. Also that someone was on a cellphone next to the door where he entered. Seems strange to just wait for the cops. The word Patsy comes to mind.
Overall, I would rather have a pistol and a small fighting chance at stopping the guy than to cower and cough under my chair and wait for him to zero in on me.
DAMN RIGHT!
There is more to it than just probability. Sure, another firearm being discharged might have hurt somebody besides the sick SOB doing the shooting, but it might have put an earlier end to it, too. We’ll never know.
I do know that I’d rather go down fighting than trying to find a place to hide. I’m also pretty sure that this POS was concerned enough about his own hide to surrender when the cops confronted him, to plan a diversion to keep the cops away while he did this, to wear protective gear, and to pick a dark place were firearms are prohibited. Sounds like somebody fighting back might have scared him off even if it didn’t kill him on the spot.
Yeah, a good guy with a gun might not have been a magic wand to prevent or stop this, but I’d much rather the next psycho have to worry about somebody returning fire than to try and ensure the safety of the other fish in the barrel as they wait to get shot by making sure all the fish are equally unarmed.
I wonder if theatergoers in the future will have to go through the screening process as airport patrons. That could vastly expand the number of “Theater Security Administration” agents. It could create a popular new layer of bureaucracy.
Was reading recently that the dirtbag had a ballistic helmet and bulletproof leggings on as well.
You know, I’m not sure a CCW would have been able to do much at all. We’re down to a face shot to have a chance, and that’s some damned slim pickings.
Best option would have been someone tackling him.
Wait for help to arrive? The cops were outside the building doing crowd control, and it took them at least a minute to a minute and a half to respond. That time frame was touted as a good thing at a news conference.
The cops had nothing to do with the shooter stopping. He quit when he wanted to. He shot 79 people in what, less than 90 seconds. If he had gotten some incoming, less people would have gotten hurt.
Patsy is my reference to Oswald. I am saying that maybe he was left there and the real killers escaped.

We need to encourage more of this type of reaction.
I totally agree. Personally I would ignore the rule and carry anyway. What’s the worst that could happen - they kick you out?
Odd, I thought that sort of thing was against the law. And the penalty seems reasonably strict:
18 USC §ection 241 - Conspiracy against rights
If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or
If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured
They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.
Not true. A .357 Sig has enough velocity to penetrate Class II body armor. The leggings or a shirt are not likely to stop a .357 Sig either. Even without penetration the shooter would have been distracted, allowing more people to escape.
Now, I would likely have been one to return fire. Being handicapped to an extent that would prevent me from running away, I would rather return fire and afford someone else escape and have a chance at survival myself than attempt to flee and allow others to escape by presenting an easier target for the gunman.
