I got tired of the weed and feed thing every 6 weeks during the summer, so I took the advice of the Saturday morning radio garden expert. I bought a 10 pound sack of white clover (internet purchase) and spread it out over my lawn. It did exactly as he said it would. It choked out the dandelions, crab grass and weeds, and now I don’t even need to fertilize, since clover is a nitrogen fixing legume and creates nitogen compounds for both itself and everything around it. Yeah, there are the little white blossoms, but they don’t detract from the lawn’s appearance, they actually highlight it.
The other thing I didn’t realize was that clover is more resistant to being walked on than the grass is.

My understanding is that the white clover will not maintain complete coverage due to the fact that the clover will improve the soil by fixing nitrogen out of the air. Then more aggressive plants will out compete the clover in the areas where the soil has been improved.

However, I have been looking to do what you've done. May i ask where you purchased the seeds?

My whole neighborhood got taken over by clover with no effort on anybody’s part that I am aware. The only yards that aren't covered with it are the few weed & feed fanatics who are fighting the soil, the terrain and the intact, mostly wild forestation throughout. They're all retired and so have time to fool with it. The rest of us struggle to just keep it mowed and fertilized/reseeded in the fall.

To me, the clover is annoying. The white blooms pop back out within a day of mowing, so the sunny areas of the yard look perpetually in need of mowing. I'm embracing moss in the shaded areas, which is most of it. Wild ferns coming up too. Kind of nice, but it still needs occasional mowing, stray unwanted vegetation.

Along with those little white blossoms come the bees. Lots and lots of them. Clover honey is just that, from clover.

Beware walking in blooming clover with bare feet!

I learned that lesson the hard way when I really young.

That is a very retro solution! Years ago people had gorgeous lawns using clover as a natural weed and feed in their lawn. Some decided clover in a lawn was a weed and the battle began. I am going to put clover back in my yard, little kids like it too- gives them something to do, they can look for four leaf clovers.
