This health care/tax and the upcoming election is depressing me and I'm longing for another time and place: I'm thinking 1997--I do not want to be a child again, nor do I want to relive other, rather awful, portions of life. Being 38 years old was good, I had a good job, my husband still had 20 years to work, we only had two dogs, there was still hope. See what I mean?
Where would you like to go and why? Doesn't have to be personal history, could be history in general.
plastic army pen = plastic green army men (used in the sandbox)
All that was true for me too, except that my Dad died in December ‘63.
Half of those neighbor kids are dead now. It’s amazing, they just seem to be dropping like flies. If what I see happening to the kids that I grew up with, no one is going to have worry about sustaining SS, the baby boom generation that I grew up with are not living to collect it.
Another friend and neighbor from my childhood died on the the 4th of July at 62.
Anytime before Lyndon Johnson was President and the Feds began handing out welfare money at warp speed.
1984 or 90 AD in Asia Minor or one of Danial’s Magoi in or around 900 BC in Babelyn(sp?).
Can I bring any souvenirs back from my vacation?
In 1962 we had to deal with the Soviet Union who was installing SS-4 IRBMs in Cuba. It was a dangerous time.
Now the Soviet Union is on the ash heap of history.
sorry to hear about 1963 in terms of your father dying.
in terms of people dropping like flies, I guess it doesn’t get any better, so we’ll have to get used to it.
they’ve been running the Andy Griffith show non stop since he died.. that reminds me of my childhood, and I guess that is why the show resonates with our generation.
and Aunt Bea was an amazing, underrated actor and an amazing american role model in terms of that part.. her kindness and goodness was truly wonderful to watch.
Anywhere, USA 1957 would be good.....................even New Jersey................
Pre Roe vs. Wade and ten years prior to that when I could walk into any Catholic Mass and hear Latin spoken and sin mentioned in the Homily.
1989 - Brisbane, Australia....
Made the mistake of scheduling too much time in Sydney and too little in Brisbane.
Cairnes was pretty nice too!
"Willoughby. Next stop Willoughby."
I would not want to go back before indoor plumbing, but anywhere 1950-1970 would do.
Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch...
I would go back to 1984 When it was “Morning in America” and one of my favorite songs came out that always made me swell with pride “God Bless the USA!”
Hell, I was hot, the chicks were hot and life was hot.
Today? Life’s great, the women are beautiful but the mood and tone of America is muted and it seems every damn person I know is getting a tattoo(why?).
I actually wouldn’t go back to anytime as I am generally looking forward and I really believe we’ll get past a Romney Presidency and find a real leader who can lead with conviction and lift our American spirit.
I consider a persons’ Stupidity Index directly proportional to the number of tattoos they have. Number of body piercings is an index multiplier.
6 years ago when I was 20 to kick myself in the a**..ruined 2 lives forever being stooopid.
1927- I’d buy as much stock as I could, then sell it off at the end of 1928. Then short-sell stocks like Sears and Roebuck, Montgomery-Ward, United Aircraft, and Canada Dry Ginger Ale for November, 1929.
Then I would’ve taken the money and invested in Canadian banks until 1932, when I would’ve pulled it out and invested into Coca-Cola. Then in 1980, I would take a good share of that and invest in Apple. In 1983, I’d put some money in World Com and then pull it out in 1999.
