Okay, I know I am inviting comments from the peanut gallery with this posting, but just what the heck has presidential candidate Mitt Romney been doing with all his time recently? Is he using it wisely?
Yes, it is true that Romney makes regular appearances on the campaign trail but by and large, he spends most of his days out of view. I'm just wondering what he is doing during that time.
Chances are, he is being briefed by staffers and handlers on the issues of the day so that when it comes time for town meetings, press interviews and debates, he will be as sharp as possible on the issues.
Or perhaps, he is getting trained by consultants on how to be a regular guy. For Romney comes across as rather stiff and formal. Maybe he's being coached on how to be more personable and charismatic.
I can relate as I had the opposite experience in my younger years as I was being groomed for upper management. As a young manager, I had no problem being down to earth and relating to working class people. But I felt like a fish out of water in the boardrooms. So my company sent me to image consultants, Dale Carnegie, the works, so that I could present a more polished "executive" appearance - kind of like...Mitt Romney.
I was taught how to match my ties perfectly with my suit and how to wear brown shoes with brown belts and color coordinate my shirt with my suit and so forth so I didn't look like a jackass when meeting with "C" level executives. They even taught me how to dress business casual - collared alligator shirts, dress pants, loafers and then really casual with golf shirts (no T-shirts!), tan shorts (never black or white), boat shoes (no socks) and expensive looking sunglasses. Never wear sneakers under any circumstances and only wear dungarees if you are doing yard work, farming or ranching.
Yes, I was taught how to give a public speech: Thank the person who introduced me to the podium, smile at the audience, loosen them up with a self-deprecating joke or two before launching into my prepared remarks. I was told how to hold a wine glass, which fork to use with salad and all that other etiquette stuff that separates the elite from the masses.
So basically I think Romney is being consulted on the opposite of all that because he already has the "power executive" image down pat. So he's being consulted on how to be a regular guy so he can relate to the masses. This is perhaps a tougher challenge than a regular guy pretending at being an executive. Because people who are used to wealth and privilege often look dorky when they try to relate to the common man. Witness John Kerry's awkward attempts back in 2004 with his "Can I get me a hunting license" schtick.
So lets hope Romney does not make a total ass of himself when he hits the campaign trail 24/7 later this year.
So what else is Romney doing behind those closed doors? Bear in mind that Romney is one of the first nominees since Ronald Reagan who did not have the added burden of an elected office while running for president. (McCain was a sitting senator, the Bushes a sitting president or vice-president, Dole a sitting senator, etc.)
So like Reagan in 1980, Romney has the luxury of devoting 100% of his time to running for president. Let's hope he is using that time wisely...and just what the heck is he doing with all this time anyhow?
My money is on golf or tennis...
He’s on a campaign bus starting from New Hampshire hitting the swing states. He is supposed to be in Iowa tomorrow, I think.
He has to practice day in and day out being a fake Conservative...that takes a lot out of you.
Based a Google news searches of where he is appearing, I would say he is spending a lot of times in airplanes. He is in Las Vegas one day, New York the next for media appearances, then in Ohio and so on...
Adjusting his underwear!
Mr. RomneyCARE has to avoid Massachusetts because
he installed ROMNEYCARE.
He has to avoid any location where he might be
asked a CONSERVATIVE QUESTION.
Mr. RomneyCARE will therefore only appear on FOX NEWS
which pimps for him, reading prepared questions.
Funny how it works isn’t it? Its not even that much work when republicans are a bunch of sycophant robotards who don’t have the courage to question him on anything.
A recipe for madness.
Well, since 0bama is screwing himself lately, he doesn’t have that much to do. Just sit back and watch the train wreck.
Posting as “SoConPubbie” on Free Republic?
When your opponent is sinking his own campaign, get out of the way and try to keep your mouth shut.
He’s staying out of the way while the Democrats beat themselves to death. Smart move if you ask me!
I don’t know what he’s doing with his time, but I know he regularly takes weekends off.

But seriously, don’t you wonder what it is like being a presidential candidate who is about to receive the nomination of their party? We see glimpses of Romney on the campaign trail but there is an awful lot going on behind closed doors. I wish I could know what is happening. I’m not normally a conspiracy kind of guy but I’m thinking that a lot of horse trading is going on right about now as it is almost certain that the balance of power will be shifting to the Republicans this year - White House, Senate and significantly increased majority in the House.
Looks like this thread has attracted the attention of our resident I’m voting Third Party...”I’m writing a candidate in...”I’m not voting, thatll show em!
Whether you like it or not, Romney is the GOP candidate.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
DING! DING! DING!
We have our winner!
(Also - he is raising a boatload of money to spend when it really counts.)

Exactly what I was going to say. Actually he has been busy on the campaign trail but Obama screwing himself is what is making the headlines.
The last four paragraphs of your vanity start with, “So.”
Creepy!
