Either I'm going deaf or something is seriously wrong with the sound quality or audio/mic settings used during production of this program. I had to enable closed captioning to understand what the hell everyone was saying. The vocals sounded muffled and were unintelligible much of the time. It's hard to read lips when everyone's got bushy mustaches! LOL! I haven't had this problem with any other program!
Okay, FR tell me it's just me but I bet others will chime in in agreement.

Perhaps the show is being authentic. I can barely understand anyone here much further east than Richmond.

I think you are dead on about the poopy “semi-whisper” audio. Too bad.
Regarding lack of humor, hey probably not much humor while barely subsisting in that part of the world following the War of Northern Aggression.
So far it looks to be sticking close to historical.

I found the audio for the dialogue very low. I had to watch with the remote constantly adjusting the volume.
