Sea of Heartbreak

The lights in the harbor
Don’t shine for me
I’m like a lost ship
Drift on the sea

The sea of heartbreak
Lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress
So divine, how I wish
You were mine, again my dear

I’m on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak
How did I lose you?
Oh, where did I fail?
Why did you leave me
Always to sail?

This sea of heartbreak
Lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress
So divine, how I wish
You were mine, again my dear

I’m on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak
Oh, what I’d give
To sail back to shore?

Back to your arms once more
Come to my rescue
Come here to me
Take me and keep me
Away from the sea

The sea of heartbreak
Lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress
So divine, how I wish
You were mine, again my dear

I’m on the sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak
Sea of heartbreak
Sea oh heartbreak

For My Lady - Moody Blues

I first heard this on the helicopter deck of the USS CORONADO on my Youngster Cruise in 1973, one day out of Norfolk at the end of the cruise. One of the crew had brought his speakers and stereo out on the flight deck after deck and was playing Moody Blues albums in the pitch black night under an umbrella of stars. It was quite an experience, hearing the Moody Blues for the first time.

I think it depends on what kind of sailing one is undertaking. "Souther Cross" or "Sloop John B" might be nice for a peaceful cruise under a light breeze. But, if one is racing, or perhaps taking on some heavier seas such as in the Vendee Globe race, I think Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries would be well-suited.

Yes its a spoof, but a perfect set of songs. Watch a few of the episodes and you’ll have a CD ready to go.

1. Southern Cross (CSN)

2. Sail on Sailor (Beach Boys)

3. Sailing (Rod Stewart)

4. Sailing (Christopher Cross)

5. Ride Captain Ride (Blues Image)

Seventy-three men sailed up
From the San Francisco Bay,
Rolled off of their ship
And here's what they had to say.
"We're callin' everyone to ride along
To another shore,
We can laugh our lives away
and be free once more."
But no one heard them callin',
No one came at all,
'Cause they were too busy watchin'
Those old raindrops fall.

As a storm was blowin'
Out on the peaceful sea,
Seventy-three men sailed off
To history.
Ride, captain ride
Upon your mystery ship,
Be amazed at the friends
You have here on your trip.
Ride captain ride
Upon your mystery ship,
On your way to a world
That others might have missed.
