Yes and that was with 1/3 the population we have now and when technology was light years behind what it is now. and it’s even worse in consumer electronics. the U.S. manufactures zero smarth phones, ipads, lapttops , cell phones and thousands of other electronic products and their parts and related industries. China stole all of these industries . U.S. manufacturing jobs now at 3.8% of U.S. population and declining . We are done if we don’t start making things in the U.S.A. SOON. Start a trade war with China and other countries or at least put numerical limits on imports like smart phones ,etc.
