In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
numen \NOO-min\, noun
Divine power, especially one who inhabits a particular object.
Example sentences:
This liquid flowing up his arm and out of the other was numen, the divine substance, the sacred spirit that lives in a certain place in the body and sustains us all.
-- Jonathan Carroll, White Apples
He was now fairly confident that a shrine, unlike a temple, would contain no resident numen.
-- Dave Duncan, Present Tense (Round Two of the Great Game)
Etymology:
Numen is derived from the Latin word nūmen meaning "a nod, command, or divine will or power."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
there is absolutely no way the diary is legit. NONE.
OK. Now that is good writing. Much more believable.
(I was channeling my 20-year-old self journal writing. Most of it was a diatribe like the above example. ;P )

I had wondered where Tolkien had derived this
Obamabots think he’s not human
But godly, injected with numen
More liberal than Carter
His socialist ardor
He’ll mask, and start running as Truman
I’m a big Rangers fan and, while thrilled with the outcome, am equally exhausted. If this had been chess, instead of ice hockey, one coach could have offered to call it a draw at about midnioght; the other would have accepted.
I think Ryan Callahan must be twins, both wearing #24. One second #24 is behind the Caps’ goal, digging out the puck. The next second the other #24 is in front of the Rangers’ goal, sprawled out to block a shot. Terrific series, and happily lacking the Chris Neil inspired chippiness that marred the exciting first round with Otawa.
There once was a man named Barry
His years were misery again
He had a numan of Mao
That’s the only way how
I can explain his new slogan

xshub pointed out to me that various players had blood all over their jerseys by the end of the night. I think it was Boyle who took a puck to the face but kept on ticking. the teams are so evenly matched, but the Rangers def seemed to have more OOMPH left by the end. my fave ranger is Torts. i love him, just get a huge kick out of his attitude.
I love that movie. A for you!
oh and i meant to say that Bret Baier was there sitting just over from us, behind the goal. He was there before 7:30 which is pretty impressive considering he came directly from his show which ends at 7pm. Granted Fox is not far at all from the Verizon center, but i wonder where he parked. I don’t think he has a driver, because xsboy and i saw him pulling out of the garage once, Fox studios are up by Union Station and very near Gonzaga, when xsboy was still in HS. We took cellphone pix from our seats, but there were people going up and asking him for pix with him. he went at the first intermission and bought an Ovechkin jersey for himself and an OV tshirt for his wife. And he had a Miller lite : )
A for you!
Tolkien was a genius. A+ for you.
He’s Wilson light or Carter 2.0. A+ for you.
Commie is as Commie does. A+ for you.
A+ for you!
Helloooo numen!
