Cat vanity: I think mine is possessed by at least one demon
my weird cat

Posted on 04/29/2012 7:41:08 PM PDT by West Texas Chuck

I'm sitting in the den Friday night watching Samurai movies. My weird psycho cat Rocket jumps into my chair and gets all cuddly and lovey. I am patting him and he gets this look in his eyes and I know what is next. He bites the tar out of me.

That's so funny. I always say our furbabies are like 3 year olds in fur coats. Mine lay around mostly...I have an older cat (13 years) and a younger 3 legged baby. He's full of it! Both are tremendous companions.

Rule 1: Its never the cat
Rule 2: It's always the human
Rule 3: Don't treat your cat like a human. Your cat is a cat.
Rule 4: Don't piss off the cat.
Rule 5: NEVER hit the cat. Remember Siegfried and Roy? Hit a big cat, expect to be killed.

There are plenty of cat behavior books/programs. My Cat From Hell is an excellent resource. All these shows (cat behavior/dog behavior) ALWAYS address short comings in the owner, not the animal.

Cats have a incredibly sensitive pain vs pleasure threshold. You can be stroking the cat, then the very NEXT stroke, he/she has had enough and bites. The problem is, the cat's been telling you to stop and you weren't listening. review Rule 3 again.

30 minutes a day in structured play time with a feature toy which will do wonders in a constructive release of pent-up energy.

First, never play with a cat with your bare hand, second, i had a scizzo cat that turned out to have a heart deformity...last, cats have their DON’T TOUCH SPOTS OR YOU WILL DIE. You found your cats spot I think.

Or you could follow the traditional Korean tradition of cat management" Wok the cat.

It's also possible the cat is practicing the sacred art of the zot. I hear they are good at that.

Kittens who are played with roughly tend to continue that behavior when they are bigger and stronger. Never teach a kitten anything you don't want a cat to do to you.

Different cats like different kinds of touching. I have a brush intended for human hair with boar bristles, and it is the one my cats appreciate the most. They recognize the brush when I bring it out. They would rather be brushed than stroked.

When a cat has had enough of anything, never attempt to restrain them. If it's cat time to go bounding off to a different part of the house, so be it. Serious restraining should be reserved for serious medical treatment, and hence rare.

I have only been bitten by my cats when I was doing something to them they really did not like (washing poop off of a long-hair cat, combing a hair mat out of a long haired cat). Since they probably thought I had lost my mind, I don't hold it against them.

Cats don't need expensive toys. Ping pong balls--especially in a dry bathtub--are great cat toys.

Cats aren't human, but they are sensitive enough to pick up on your mood and attitude. They are also capable of training us.

Good thing they are laid back! That’s a lot of kitteh to handle if he’s mad. Our vet breeds Maine Coons and she keep three at the clinic (a cat only clinic) who are blood donors and official “greeters”. They are gorgeous and will let anyone pet them. Very friendly.

Some and some not.

Growing up I had an orange tabby who would nip when he had enough attention. A neighbor believed what you did and insisted on pushing it...and found out he really meant “ENOUGH!”. He wrapped himself around her wrist and rabbit footed + bit in deadly earnest. Much blood was shed that day, but the old fool didn’t make an issue of it, because she admitted she’d been warned and ignored it.

One of our current females is a love-biter. She’s easily *very* overexcited, and loves attention. Sweet, affectionate, not so bright, but if she’s relaxed and happy enough, you’re gonna get bit.

I’ve only had one cat, a mutant 20 lb orange tabby from Hell who appeared in my driveway one rainy morning as a sweet little kitten. Very smart and mostly amiable cat (taught him to sit, shake, could be summoned with a whistle...taught himself to use the toilet all on his lonesome) but would lose his mind once in a while. Almost 15 years later I still have a pretty wicked scar on my right thigh from that SOB.

R.I.P, Buster.

I hope so.

Gnashing teeth aside, he was my buddy for three years. I’ve never really been a “cat person” but he was special.

Jackson Galaxy is the man. He fixed some really messed up cats. A lot of it is common sense but most of it is knowledge of felines.
Its a fun show to watch....
