In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
riposte or ripost (ri-POST) noun: 1. A quick, clever reply.
2. In fencing, a quick return thrust.
verb tr.: To make a quick, clever reply.
verb intr.: In fencing, to make a quick return thrust.
Example sentence:
"Asked about the situation, Rodriguez delivered a particularly pointed riposte that embodied his mature response to the entire situation."
---Sam Borden; Kansas State Sets Up Melting Pot; The New York Times; Mar 16, 2012.
Etymology:
From obsolete French risposte (response), from Italian risposta (response), from Latin respondere (to respond), from re- (back) + spondere (to pledge). Ultimately from the Indo-European root spend- (to make an offering or perform a rite), which is also the source of sponsor, spouse, espouse, and respond. Earliest documented use: 1707.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
In the world of twitter, the conservatives shine with clever ripostes, leaving the White House hash tag attempts at memes grovelling in the dirt, #dontdoublemyrate being the latest brilliant example.
Nice try. ;)
A+ for you. It’s why I don’t understand the rep as a good speaker. Hardly. As in not even close.
Thank you c-y-c. Here’s your A.
A+ for you. Don’t forget to root for my team tomorrow in Phoenix!
Funny, A for you.
Dumb....as.....a.....stump.
A+ for you. Democrats know nothing about farming or agriculture, as evidenced by their recent lunacy.
Got it. A for you.
OK how about-- Riposte: a light snack containing baked beans?
They are killing them with the hashtag warfare and cracking me up daily. A for you. #ObamaEatsDogs
That’ll do. A for you.
My youngest has a BRONY shirt. Her friend bought it for her.
I am happy the Caps won, but there are lots of reasons for mixed feelings. #1, i can’t stand Dale Hunter and had they lost last night, he’d of been heading back to London, Ontario by the weekend, most likely #2, i had to put up with further obama BS last night bc the twitterverse was all about a BLACK CAP beating Tim THomas, and how Obama must have loved that yada yada. Someone tweeted a pic of Obama watching the game in the WH with a group of people. i have no idea if it’s photoshopped or real, i HIGHLY doubt he gives enough of a dang about hockey to have watched. It drives me insane because it ascribes all this importance to the TT-OBAMA thing as if either ONE of them cares about the other one way or the other. it makes me want to SCREAM.
but that will be over now, no reason to see it mentioned again. If the Sens knock out the Rangers, we may be playing the Flyers next, which will def be interesting considering xsteen’s boyfriend is an avid Flyers fan and they have been watching the respective games together thus far, and cheering for each other’s team. I think he knows he will not be sitting in one of our seats for a playoff game should we be playing the Flyers!
I’m glad Wardo earned his enormous salary last night since he’s had very little TOI. He’s a hard worker and a good guy. He’s one of the few who actually finished his degree.
Plus your team seems to be responding to Hunter and playing good D.
I haven’t been interested in Bronies since I was a Cub Scout.
