We'll soon see how far Sacha Baron Cohen goes as ''The Dictator''; in 2012, though, it's difficult to imagine any film could cross certain lines as casually as did these hits of the past

Started reading and couldn’t stop! Thanx for posting!
It really irritates me that liberals can only tolerate black people in the role of paragons, no wonder they like the Big O so much.
I’m not going to claim that GWTW is a documentary, but the fact is that Mammy is one of the most important (and good - in fact Mammy is a paragon) characters in both the book and the movie. I would say she is the 5th most important character after Scarlett, Rhett, Melanie and Ashley. For crying out loud Hattie McDaniel won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar (tradmark!) for that part. In 1939! Do they really think she was given an Oscar for playing a fool?
As to Prissy and her famous line “I don’t know nothing ‘bout birthing babies” the fact is Melanie (a frail woman) is going to have a baby pretty much in the middle of the siege of Atlanta and Prissy has been bragging that she’s very familiar with this and has helped bring many children into the world. Well, of course she never has.
It’s a laugh line in the middle of a crisis (and in fact if that actress hadn’t been as good as she was nobody would have remembered it, she’s like innumerable boastful teenage girls since time immemorial) but to The Left it’s an irredeemable sign of how RACIST ALL AMERICANS ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE AND ONCE AGAIN WE’LL BE REVEALED AS SUCH IF WE VOTE OBAMA OUT OF OFFICE OR THE NEXT LEFTIST DEM OR DON’T GIVE SOME OTHER ACTRESS AN OSCAR, ETC. ETC. ETC.
So, who can put up with this cr*p? They are insufferable.
PS to my own post, I looked a little further and as I suspected McDaniel beat out Olivia DeHavilland for best supporting actress for GWTW. And, to my mind, DeHavilland is really the best thing about the picture. Her portrayal of Melanie, who is very two dimensional in the book, is amazing; she makes her into a real person.
This is one of the few movies I put in the "perfect" category...its a work pf art where not one scene or exchange of dialogue can be improved in any way IMO...it's as good as it gets.
What about Charlie Chan films? or Tarzan pictures I must admit I did like the Gabonee Tribe—they didn’t take anything from anyone—They only respected Tarzan—they would kill you and sing and play drums while they were doing it.
I saw it (part of it!) on cable TV. During the boobs-in-the-shower scene, my TV blew out.
Well, yeah! Right after they bombed Pearl Harbor!
Red Dawn’s been remade. The bad guys are now North Koreans.
Dagnabit!
Guess I’ll never get to see “History of the World, Part II”
I clicked on the thread specifically to see if Blazing Saddles was in the list.
Will now go look at the article.
It’s a remake of the remake. The stopped productions and re-shot part of the movie as the ‘original’ was going to have Red China as the aggressor, but the studio decided they didn’t want to make red China mad is that not Un-PC enough for you?
Thank you so much for that link. I am going to share it with my husband as he is the one who first loved the movie and shared it with me.
LOL, you obviously didn’t read the comments as MarkL already got me with that one:)
Will do, thanks for the tip.
We only do it because we love you!
Besides, piling on is the second rule of free republic. The first rule is to post responses without bothering to read the article. That only wastes time.

There was that corporal with the funny mustache.
Well, then, I suppose I should be grateful you didn’t ping a long list of others to come here and see my shame.
Maybe I need to read the rules again.
