My major peeves:
Pseudo-intellectuals who say “begs the question” when they mean “raises the question.”
Pseudo-intellectuals who say “apropos” when they mean “appropriate.”
ANYONE who says “snuck”. The past tense of the word “sneak” is “sneaked.”
In my neck of the woods, lots of folks say “sposably” instead of “supposedly.” I’ve even seen it spelled that way in correspondence.
There are also some fine folks here who say “It needs washed” or “He needs fed” instead of “It needs to be washed” or “He needs to be fed.”
And of course, there is always “alot” - that cursed little mistake from hell that has crept into everyday life.
GAAAHHHHH!!!
There. I feel better now. You are free to stroll about the grounds until you feel at home.
So how do you feel about already. ... Sad to have a life so boring that you have to get huffy about spelling mistakes on the Internet. Just how huge and series do you want to get wid diss?
The advent of texting, emails, tweets, etc., are the source of many new variatons, typos, etc., that will soon leak into the mainstream dictionaries. It cannot be stopped. The yutes of today who create documents are farked.
The won that drives me nuts is when someone says, “I’m fix’in to go somewhere. Or I’m fix’in to do something.
Yes, I know it should be “one” jus havin fun.
First off, kudos to having a thread on this topic and not going after an individual’s post. I have come to HATE frikkin’ grammar Nazis. I wonder how long this early poster (2002) would have hung around if the grammar (and punctuation) Nazis had ripped into him?

i was one too. i still pretty much have my same small ‘L’ libertarian ideals, but in college the left tapped into that and basically implored me to be paranoid that the religious right was working overtime to take away my rights. all the while campus speeh codes and political correctness were being instituted around me in the name of diversity and multiculturalism. when i graduated in 1991, i had an epiphany, a conversion of sorts, as i watched in horror the clarence thomas hearings. ‘those guys are on my side?’ i thought as i watched the dems attempt to assassinate a good man. since then my libertarian instincts have been buffered by an attraction to the moral clarity of the conservative movement. happily just voted for bill simon last tuesday here in california.
