I've been a subscriber to NRODT since 1986, but Rich Lowry's mewling, whingeing, trembling mischacterization of Mr. Derbyshire's article is unacceptable. It is time for NRODT and me to part company. This is my Chuck Turner moment. I had subscribed to the Boston Globe, forever. But after they printed those fraudulent photos from Chuck Turner I got the motivation to drop my subscription. Well, I'll take the 50 bucks or so a year that NRODT costs and use it to support whatever enterprise has the savvy to scoop up Mr. Derbyshire.
So you responded with a personal attack.
Now there is something wrong with US - where WE need to widen our circle. I know that you know nothing about me - but feel your opinion is not only valid re the article - but feel the need to give me advice?
You pointed out nothing but your opinion of his prose, and his tough talk. While - you hide behind YOUR OWN SHIELD OF “KIND BLACK FRIENDS”.
Such hypocracy.
and they cannot seek out black friends who are not intelligent and well socialized=and they cannot seek out black friends who **are**intelligent and well socialized
Jed: I think you meant to reference paragraph 15. Re-read it and I think you will see that the writer is saying that intelligent, well socialized black people are valuable and worth cultivating, like anything of worth. I could go into Aristotle’s explanations of `friendships’ (from the Nicomachean Ethics) but it’s bedtime for this Bonzo.
If you want to mingle with stupid, poorly socialized people and advise your children to do so, that’s certainly your prerogative.
I dumped NRODT over a year ago for similar reasons. They are RINO establisment types.
I love that Rush calls it “Charles Kruthammer at NR” or something.
I’ll still browse through The Corner online and will read some like Victor Hanson and Dr. Sowell.
I read what Derb wrote and found nothing in it to be offensive. I guess Richie-boy can’t handle the truth.
You are arguing a point of omission. I’m sure Derb would be more than happy to write the same type of column about “advice to his girls” if they attended a school in the South with a huge redneck population. I’m sure trailer parks would fit in there somewhere.
Or you can do what my liberal parents advise (and I’m 52) when visiting them in Portland, OR: Just don’t go to those “bad” areas.
So, being typical liberal cowards that can’t acknowledge the fact their social policies help create this mess, they just put up fences and “don’t go there”.
Hard to tour many cities doing that.
Actually - assuming it tracks with socio-ecomics is a mistake.
Crime tracks with race.
It DOES track with socio-economics - but the Blacks are just so far ahead it is ridiculous. There are - essentially “two curves” of crime vs socio-economics - the white curve, and the black curve. The Black curve is always higher. By like - 2X to 3X.
I made the assumption in the past - and got slapped down for it. Crime vs color is “two different populations” of data.
Perhaps you could attend the next scheduled Iowa or Wisconsin State Fair “Beat Whitey” night and widen your circle. I bet that last summer’s events formed some positive opinions. /s
What was wrong, exactly, and why?
Offensive is in the eye of the beholder. The liar deems the truth "offensive."
How about challenging facts with better facts and ditch the mere opinions?
Derbyshire isn’t just prejudiced against blacks, he also thinks all non-atheists are stupid too. I never exactly understood why Derbyshire was writing at a conservative publications, since he doesn’t really agree with conservatives on most issues. He wasn’t a fiscal conservative, a social conservative, or a foreign policy conservative. I believe he once said that he wasn’t unsympathetic to the desire for smaller government, he just didn’t think it was a realistic goal. Are you claiming his racism made him a conservative. If you are, screw you.
If you truly believe or would say most of the points #9 on, you should come to terms with the fact that you aren’t a conservative, and should re-register as a Democrat. When I hear those points, I immediately though they sounded like something a Democrat or leftist would think/say.
I don’t know what religion, if any, you are, but I would say those points are completely incompatible with being a Christian.
Who are you calling a girly-boy, when you agree with a man who tells his son to be scared of all black people, and to remain cowering in his house in fear?

Unlike you, I wouldn't tell my son to make his life and his friends for status like some bohemian Yuppie lefty. (Sorry I'm not as politically correct as you)
Unlike you, I would try to give my son a racist, Farrakhanesque worldview.
Luckily it's a free country though, and you can tell your son whatever you think is best.
I think I heard it once. Remind me.
Maybe a Nancy Boy.
It was about 6-7 years ago?
He has a habit of firing the wrong people just because their aggressive writing and debate style offends his sense of decorum.
He is an example of why the right cannot fight against the left. Afraid of getting gore on themselves.
Now, I believe both of the latter facts are direct results of government intervention via welfare programs. The federal government itself has destroyed hopes of blacks, assisted in corrupting its culture, and enabled the violence via racist gun laws.
But the facts stand.
But I suppose that NR does not have the intellectual fortitude it has under W.F. Buckley.
Holder said America was afraid of talking about race.
Derb talked about race and was fired by NR. Ergo.....
NR is paralyzed with fear of being called racists.
