Hair-raising blast at college as barber chair blows up

A barber chair at a cosmetology college blew up Thursday. The cause of the blast and fire on the Deltona campus of Daytona State College is unknown, according to a report in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The explosion caused minor injuries to one person.

“Deltona firefighters didn’t know what to think when they were dispatched to the Deltona campus of Daytona State College just before noon Thursday.
The original report —an exploding barber chair — was wrong.
“There was no explosion,” said Deputy Chief Robert Rogers. “There wasn’t even a fire.”
It was an electrical short in the foot bath of a chair in the school’s cosmetology building, he said. It happened in a classroom where pedicures and manicures are taught, he said.
