Most interesting Oatka...Funny too.
I’m luck to read 10-15 wpm and can probably send about 15. I enjoy the occasional CW contact from around the world, but at this point, I’m pretty slow.
Thanks
You got me beat Okieshooter!
Very interesting. Thanks.
I believe you when you say you could hear whole words at higher speeds. That makes sense.
But keep in mind that if morse really does get used as input on a smart phone (where it would make the most sense) there’s not going to be any need to hear it at the other end. The phone will convert it to text immediately.
The only problem I see with it is that it’s a whole new layer that has to be learned. Unless for a reporter I don’t see why going to all the trouble to learn it. Thumb typing isn’t that slow. I’m doin it right now.
And then there’s voice, of course, though there are plenty of problems with voice. Anyway, good history you wrote there. Thanks.
That would make sense.
How would a court reporter/transcriptionist fare?
True...where we get the term "Baud" as in Baud rate The first computer I work with daily was a PDP8 with a Teletype terminal....but tht was for a GenRad tester for cards for a Raytheon Data Systems PTS-100 front end for an IBM 360
I really depends on what you were trained on. I had to learn to type on a manual typewriter, then got immediate experience on an 029 keypunch! So I can do 40-50wpm without any problems on a QWERTY. People who are brought up on DVORAK become just as good.
You gotta remember what the QWERTY was created for, and what was learned back soon after it was created. It was originally created with the idea that it would slow people down so the mechanisms of the time wouldn’t get jammed up. Didn’t help in the least. People get trained on it - and they become proficient.
