Seriously, that's a great one. For those who don't recall, and assuming I can recall correctly, Carl was a famous (to himself anyway) media figure in Chicago; a writer for the Trib, I think. Anyway, he was a huge anti-2A voice always raving about ‘Saturday night specials’ and the usual malarkey. So, one dark night, a youth jumps the fence in Carl's swanky backyard and takes a swim in his private pool. Carl comes out and pops the kid with an unregistered (aka: illegal) handgun. Now, here's the best part: in the ensuing furor as the media sought to ignore and minimize the sh*t all over their faces, Carl holds a press conference and stridently declares (something to this effect): ‘While my political enemies crow, let it be known that as long as our streets are awash in guns I will protect my family!’ This was declared in his best MLK rolling gate cadence. That was truly priceless and should be broadcast from NY to LA hourly for the next 30 days.
Carl Rowan, IIRC, was a longtime Washington Post columnist. He may have been carried in one of the Chicago fishwrappers, but he didn’t live in town.
