Simple!
Man.. I could get so rich by drugs dealers if this became a fad. Why don’t we bring back a scarlet H for hoodrat...
No, Geraldo is stupid for saying this. Plenty of people wear hoodies that are not "gangstas." Actually, I believe the style originated with surfers and skateboarders.
You can buy them for any type of recreation or climate, emblazed with your favorite team, sport, or even branch of military service. It was ridiculous that he was blaming the victim for what he was wearing.
He was way off base, since many surveillance tapes of "perps" include people of many descriptions.
Ah yes 1957. But I lived in Kansas and the guys with duck tails also wore black leather jackets or a white tee shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in one sleeve. I preferred the guys with the white bucks, button down shirts and burr cuts - probably because my parents said I did. Always wondered what it would be like to date one of the other types but....
He thought that he had a right to assault any Mexican that looked at him.
And Zimmerman's attitude that he had the right and duty to harass any black dressed like a thug (instead of keeping up surveillance from a reasonable distance) caused the assault that triggered the killing. Plenty of blame to go around in this case.
The point is, you are LADIES. You are middle-aged suburban white women, you probably aren’t shuffling around with half your hind end sticking out and your pants dragging on the ground, and you probably don’t look like an addict or a prison inmate. Even at night, even from a distance, any LEO can tell from the way you walk and move that you aren’t looking for trouble. If you wear a hoodie, it looks sporty and athletic. If a teenager of any race wears one, it raises questions.
I’m a middle-aged lady, too. It’s a little different for us; someone driving past us as we walk with a hoodie on just assumes we’re exercising.
Jaidyn, I am simply ignorant... simply ignorant. I just don’t understand what a “hoodie” has to do with this. Either from you or Rivera. The guy who shot the young man had no business even having a gun. Some people shouldn’t. Sorry but I’m married to a former gun store owner, and he turned down many buyers who were simply unstable. And that’s a fact.
You are right, I had forgotten the rolled up pack of cigarettes in the white T shirts sleeve, leather was a hit and miss in my part of the country....Life was much easier, you could go for years and never hear about the federal government until election for presidents..ah, the good old days were really the good old days compared to today...we prefered different kinds of guy, but we both made it to over 70 and still breathing....LOL
You are not of the body. You will be absorbed.

I was replying to a post. I don't know how a hoodie got brought up in this case, either. I do know about the sweat shirts with hoods, because a friend 'almost' got robbed. She was a barmaid, and noticed a guy walking by the window with a hoodie on. It was warm out. When he walked into the bar, he had a knife and demanded the money. However, she already had a gun in her hand, and he left faster than he came in.
None of us know what all went on in this case, so should wait for the grand jury and trial. Zimmerman was reckless as heck, and should be punished, but at this time, we don't know if he is guilty of murder.
Sorry, I guess I misunderstood Jaidyn. Forgive please.
There’s nothing to forgive. You asked for an explanation, and I gave it. As an aside, since it is raining here, my granddaughter wore her hoodie to keep dry. ;)
Somehow I don’t think this was the “first time”
:)
Yup....that was me. I don’t know if I still have the leather jacket. Marlboro’s in the sleeve. I was in a car club called the Sultans. One of the largest in Los Angeles. I think we averaged about 50 members with some of the best hot rods in the city. We would cruise Hollywood Blvd on Friday and Saturday nights. I had a pair of white bucks but only because my girl friend bought them for me. Only wore them once. The other guys gave me a bad time.
Funny. Somehow cannot conjure up an image of a guy with a duck tail, black leather jacket, packing Marlboro’s and wearing white bucks. All the constant powdering of shoes used to drive the adults just crazy. Interesting - and sometimes depressing - to watch the evolution of teen styles from our era to my kids. My two grandsons are 21 and 11 and not only is the grandsons choice of apparel different from each other but very far removed from previous generations.
LOL. I am honored.
Good one!
Just keeping things straight in your home state. (It even rhymes!)
