San Antonio, TX
When I woke up this morning to a slew of emails, I had the sinking thought, "it is going to be one of those days".
One of the days where there are multiple requests to feature dogs in need - multiple dogs who desperately need a chance.
How does one pick and choose a certain dog to feature? Trust me, it isn't easy.
But this one photo of a young, uniquely colored German shepherd a the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services facility touched my heart.
This dog is so frightened that he cannot stand.
He is so frightened that he cannot look at the camera.
This one, sad photo is all that he has to help him get out of the facility alive.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely no information provided for his profile. Nothing to indicate if he was a surrender or a stray.
Nothing that states "Loves to play ball" or "longs for affection".
All that we can see is fear.
He is still a puppy - life should be full of fun and new experiences right now. He should not be behind bars waiting to die.
He looks as if he could use a calm, reassuring person who has a soft voice and gentle hand.

God bless you. I was reading the thread and saying to myself that I’d contact them to adopt him. You beat me to the punch.
True Story!!!
You are only mean to blog pimpers. To animals, yer just an ol' softy.
I'd take him myself if he was in CA.
I’m with you. It’s gotten old...
Very sad photo and story, hope there is a GS (or any) rescue in the SA area that can save him if he is not adopted.
I did three weekend foster for a GS in a similar situation last year. He was so frightened he would not eat and had to be carried out to the vehicle from the shelter. When I got him from the rescue’s kennel he hid in a corner so I slept in the room with him. By the next day he was so calm he was following the other dogs around and wagging his tail. Also found out he was housebroken.
Say this out loud repeatedly, please...

UPDATE — Joe Gimont and his wife are going to be adopting Austin. Joe’s wife is driving to San Antonio tomorrow from the Austin area (must be fate for a dog named Austin to live in Austin). If something happens and they cannot make it down tomorrow then they will contact me directly and I will go pull Austin from the shelter.... Bottom line.. Austin is getting out. I will update tomorrow when I hear from Joe or his wife so that everyone knows that Austin is free and safe.
That’s great. But where did I upset the apple cart? Certainly not my “cute” picture response... He called in reinforcements for that?? Oh, my...
If you see a boy, hit him with your purse.
Oh my, sorry I didn’t realize you’re a liberal.
Those words seem to flow for you. Gunner repeating them would ring hollow as you own them.
Nope.
Oh my, you disagreed with someone else’s post but rather than address the post you make a false statement about the person.
Sounds like a liberal to me.
Yep, glad to hear it. Sorry I was not able to adopt Austin, but glad to know he is going to a loving home. BTW, I got a nice email from the shelter telling me Austin had been adopted.
Nope
That’s wonderful news! Thank you so much for the update!
