Santorum Endorsed Specter’s Presidential Bid (1996)

And as for the pro-abortion-rights presidential candidate Santorum endorsed, when Specter launched a long-shot bid for president in 1995, Santorum — his fellow Pennsylvanian — was one of his few high-profile endorsements.

For Specter, who later became a Democrat, his pro-abortion-rights position was a centerpiece of his campaign. Specter believed that anti-abortion activists were a “fringe” group hijacking the Republican party.

“There are clearly more Republicans who are pro-choice,” Specter told Newsday’s Susan Page. “Up until now, I am the only person willing to take on the fringe.” After Specter dropped out of the race, he led an ill-fated movement to change the anti-abortion provision in the Republican party platform.

Santorum was effectively returning a favor by endorsing Specter despite his aggressive pro-abortion-rights views. Specter had supported Santorum’s 1994 Senate campaign.

I don’t appreciate the name-calling, which seems to be a high art of Santorum supporters... many of whom, btw, are imbeciles... I never start it, but I give as good as I get. Try elevating your discourse... it might make people think twice about your candidate...

First, the "imbecile" reference is for anyone who does not understand how our political system works and spouts off about the lack of ideological purity.

Second, Santorum is not my candidate.

Comparing vice Presidential candidate Palin supporting Presidential candidate McCain in his sure thing reelection for his seat following their Presidential run, has nothing to do with Senator Santorum’s support in endorsements and campaigning.

The 2008 ticket turning on itself would have wiped us out in 2010.

Reagan was a democrat. That meant we never should have voted for him because he had a “D” after his name?

Huh? How did that enter this discussion? Truman was the last Democrat Presidential candidate that Reagan voted for, after that he campaigned for Republicans and became the leader of conservatism.

You really need to go back that far into history, for what again?

I was never a closet Romney supporter. In the last election, I was open about all the people I supported, and that included Romney.

Actually you consider yourself one of the best defenders of Mitt Romney that freerepublic has had.

Most of us agree with your claim of being so dedicated to Romney.

I’m probably one of the best Santorum defenders we have. I was probably one of the best Perry defenders we had.

I’m just that good.

No, no one sees you as anything particular when it comes to anyone but Mitt Romney.

When it comes to pushing or assisting Romney, you are famous for it.

I did. He wondered how at 48 I am so healthy.

I smiled and said “I am just too damn happy. Life’s too short for anything else”.

Don’t try the media crapola with me and throw digs in about someone just to sweeten your pie. It’s repulsive but expected from someone who has no problem compromising. Don’t worry about being elected to anything - doesn’t take long to see through you. You’ll never be for Newt - he draws honest folk. Stay with fork tongued flip flop COMPROMISER slick rick who will do or say anything for political gain.

Thank you!! The first I heard of this and this is info Barry, Mitt and RP have and it was NEVER brought up. That’s because the timing is not right. Yet those national TV debate attacks on Newt being a consultant to fannie are still being used here by rick’s supporters even though they never listened to him and Newt only ended up w/38k. And Mitt profited big time from fannie in his stock portfolio.

Rick’s supporters don’t give a flip about ALL THE BAGGAGE Rick has - an example of his baggage are provided in your links. Every vote for him is one less for Newt - who is THE THREAT to Mitt and the GOP E. He/GOP E have been busy designing and implementing/getting backers for their scheme/plan since ‘08 and some voters are so clueless they think they are outsmarting them by supporting Rick as an anti-romney candidate. And it was all designed to appear that way and the knuckleheads are falling for it.

He will not get the nomination because Mitt/media are procrastinating the opening of Rick’s trunk until he’s sure Newt doesn’t have a chance - and he then the trunk gets open on his sidekick since his mission will be accomplished.

It’s just another one of those Rick taking it for the TEAM. Unfortunately, the TEAM is never AMERICA. His team is the GOP E. Party before country which is his mo. Traitors, nothing patriotic about them.

Wrong. Doing the right thing IS doing the right thing. Not manipulation behind the scenes hoping things work out right. That’s shows the character of the person - either trustworthy or a manipulator.

His mo is known so he’s a willing politician who can be relied on to take one for the TEAM. And the TEAM is NOT AMERICA but the GOP E! He’s a COMPROMISER with nothing solid about him - and that is the type of supporters he attracts. COMPROMISERS - are not conservatives.

I agree and those "imbeciles"are the ones who support an admitted COMPROMISER.

However, CONSERVATIVES support a candidate who KNOWNS how AMERICA/Our Constitution was designed to work.

COUNTRY before PARTY. Like those who gave their life FOR our country and not the compromisers who take for their own gain FROM America.

GO NEWT! The 'Day One' candidate ready to return our country on the right track to her GREATNESS with power back to WeThePeople and away from WeTheCompromisers/Back Room Dealers/Manipulators/Judges/Media.

And Dede Scozzafava Or are we allowed to mention that

Sure you can if you can handled being laughed out. The media thrives on those who can't think for themselves.

A special election in a small section in upstate NY vs. a national candidate for the HIGHEST office in the land doesn't register for folks who are mimics.

And a vote for a very liberal judge, sotomayer, to open the way for her to sit on the HIGHEST COURT in the land vs a politician in a small area in upstate NY.

You want more? I'm not through laughing yet.

You exposed yourself as nothing more than a mimic for a compromiser who wants to use you for his gain and the gain of the GOP E. Mimics are those not capable of thinking for themselves - the GOP E's base. Media/propaganda driven vs. Truth which is the Conservative base.

Nope, what he did was right because it was right for the cause of abortion.

If you can have 2 scotus justices OR possibly have a freshman senator the right decision is to have the 2 scotus justices. That kind of opportunity comes around only every 20 or 30 years.

That explains slick rick perfectly. "What do you need, I can get it for you. I'm a known compromiser." 'You scratch me and I you' - the GOP E motto. And the GOP E's base say, 'so what about his record, they all do it and no one is perfect'. But for them - Newt is the one who has baggage yet he's the one the GOP E don't want.

Reality says - he's the one that doesn't have baggage that hurts America but MiTT and RICK are the ones that do and their record proves it. Except their base doesn't care about their record that hurts America.

Having said all that above, his supporters are doing the same thing barack's voters did in 2008, seeing Santorum as a Messiah... and the reality is, he isn't...

Absolutely and if anyone points to his feet of clay, some go Alinsky... Freeze It, Personalize It and Polarize It, others go head-in-the-sand Here No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil.

They're deathly afraid of vetting and daylight shed on his record.
