Talking to my wife. Apparently some Qurans were either thrown in garbage or not disposed of properly. Civilians are blaming the military but the deed was done by the locals. Still, locals are not taking it well.
They rioted all day and are now in the process of firing missiles into the base.
This operation from day one has been a cluster F* since we have been unable to control the civilian population.
Prayers for all.
The materials were in trash that two soldiers with the U.S.-led coalition transported in a truck late Monday night to a pit where garbage is burned on the base, according to Zahed, who spoke with five Afghans working at the pit.
He said that when the workers noticed the religious books in the trash, they stopped the disposal process.
I hope Iraq and Afghanistan have taught us a lesson. The next time these savages need to brought to heel we should do it with as much power as we can muster and then leave the survivors to clean up the mess while we get the hell out.
For years I have been thinking the same thing. Set up several hundred feudal states, arm them all to the teeth, sit back and enjoy the show.
The hundreds of feudal warlords would refuse to give up their power, each would seek out more and the whole region could happily go back to the 14th century, or last week, whichever is more primitive.
thanks, have not seen the wire reports yet

the base is under IDF.
Shooting their wads over a book that probably has a billion copies, I say kill them all, won’t need to worry about their precious Koran being defiled again
have to say I haven’t heard any explosions all day - it’s now 2115
i’m only about a mile from where this went on and drove past that point several times today
By all means do not let any of these people into the USA.
Ron Paul: Highways claim more than 9/11 killedI missed By all means do not let any of these people into the USA, good catch.

Nope.
Although I would have done it differently, both in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Flatten the infrastructure
Kill the leaders
Break the countries up on ethnic lines
Set the ethnic groups at each other's throats
Walk awayThe message is pretty clear, F with us, and you personally will die, we will destroy all you hold dear, and your country will simply cease to exist.
Nation building? *spit*
Well my wife has her gear on, been to the bunker twice, the base speakers say they are currently under IDF, our planes are buzzing around, and the all clear signal has not been given yet.
strike that...evidently we’ve been taking IDF for the last hour...didn’t hear it as I had my headphones on watching Red Dawn
lmao...love this place
The Israeli Defense Force? NOW yer talkin'!
It does apparently support your post .... Afghan workers were the ones doing the burning. Sounds totally unententional though.
saying some prayers for your wife
All clear has just been issued. Probably grenades and bullets. The violent stuff was localized which is probably why you did not hear anything.
All this drama over books that were not even burned
Not sure if the books were even burned, maybe, but should of been no cause for riots
In-Direct-Fire = IDF, for those who are ignorant of military jargon (Which I am but I knew that one ;-)
Get all of our soldiers out, then nuke Afghanistan from orbit.
I remember reading about riots in the Sudan. They believed that Jewish inventors were selling cell phones that caused the penises of Muslim men to fall off.
My horses have more common sense in their poop than most Afghans could find in their entire village.
I came back in July 2007. My son got back in December. We both believe that we should pull out with the promise to bomb them into nothingness if they ever cause us any problems.
ABC radio just had a news blurb about this. Apparently some Korans were burned unintentionally. The US military has apologized for it.
